How to display Subtitles (Closed Captions)

IMPORTANT: This article applies only to specific products and/or operating systems. Check Applicable Products and Categories for details.

Subtitles are typically transcriptions of the audio portion of content displayed on the TV screen. They include sound effects and scenic narration, but whether non-speech elements are available depends on the content.

Display subtitles on the TV screen

The subtitle feature is enabled by pressing the SUBTITLE (CC) button on the TV remote control. This feature is available on apps and TV broadcasts for which subtitles are available.

    Apps

Whether a given app supports the subtitle feature depends on the app. In some apps, such as Netflix, you enable subtitles by using the app's settings menu instead of pressing the SUBTITLE (CC) button on the TV remote control.* In addition, some apps can change the subtitles' text size and colour. Please visit the support site of the app you're using for detailed information on how to enable features.

    TV broadcasts

Two types of subtitles might be available on TV broadcasts, depending on the TV programme. Press the SUBTITLE (CC) button on the TV remote control to select either Basic or For hard of hearing.

    'Basic' subtitles

Basic subtitles only display the audio portion of the content.

    'For hard of hearing' subtitles

For hard of hearing subtitles display both the audio portion and the non-speech elements of content (e.g. door knocking sound).

If you'd like your TV to display For hard of hearing subtitles whenever they are available, follow the steps below.
