Why some Sony Cameras no longer support Micro-USB charging

IMPORTANT: This article applies only to specific products and/or operating systems. Check Applicable Products and Categories for details.

Sony has released several new camera variations for the European market—designated as A-models—such as the ILCE-6100A, ILCE-6400A, DSC-RX100M7A, and ZV-1A.

These models comply with the European Common Charger Directive, which is phasing out Micro-USB in favor of USB-C as the standard charging port for electronic devices. As a result, the A-models are no longer supplied with a Micro-USB-based AC adapter. Instead, they now include an external battery charger.

While you can still use the Micro-USB port on the camera for data transfer, charging via Micro-USB is no longer supported.
