How to share my Home Wi-Fi password with a friend using a QR code?

Sharing your Wi-Fi password doesn’t have to be frustrating!

If your smartphone runs Android 10 or higher, you can share your Home Wi-Fi password with other people via a QR code on your smartphone. Here's how it works.

How to share a Wi-Fi password by generating a QR code

To quickly share your Wi-Fi password, there are a few steps you need to follow to generate a QR code on your smartphone, which the person receiving the password can then scan on their smartphone.

The person sharing the password should follow the steps below:

    1. On your smartphone, go to Settings → Network & InternetWi-Fi.
    2. Tap on the Wi-Fi name that your smartphone is currently connected to.
    3. Tap on Share.
    4.  Scan your fingerprint / Use your PIN to confirm.
    5. A QR code is generated on your smartphone screen for someone else to scan.

Once the person sharing the password has generated a QR code, the person receiving the password should follow these steps:

    1. On your smartphone, go to SettingsNetwork & InternetWi-Fi.
    2. Tap on the QR code icon (located to the right of ‘Add network’).
    3. QR code scanner opens.
    4. Scan the QR code generated by the person sharing the password.

How do I scan a QR code?

Newer smartphones have a built-in QR code reader in the Camera app. This means that all you have to do is open the Camera app and focus it on a QR code for a few seconds. A pop-up link should appear on the screen, and tapping the link takes you to the website hidden in the QR code.
