No sound when connecting my TV via ARC (Audio Return Channel)
Assessing ARC & eARC settings
This article is designed to assist when the Audio Return Channel (ARC) or Enhanced Audio Return Channel (eARC) feature is not working and both the TV and audio system are compatible with the ARC feature.
- If only one of the devices is ARC/eARC compatible, the HDMI® ARC/eARC feature can't be activated. To get sound from your TV, you will need to connect the audio system with an optical cable or audio cable.
- If model-specific information is required to complete each step, check your manual.
- Third-party devices may cause the Control for HDMI or BRAVIA Sync function of the TV and the audio device to stop working. Disconnect any third-party external devices like cable boxes, satellite receivers, or gaming consoles and perform the troubleshooting steps just with the audio system connected to the TV.
- Update the TV and the audio system with the latest software version.
- Turn on the Control for HDMI or BRAVIA Sync on both devices.
- If this setting is available for your product, Set the ARC/eARC or TV Audio Input Mode of the audio system to On or Auto.
- Connect a high-speed HDMI cable to the HDMI IN (ARC or eARC) port of the TV and to the HDMI OUT (ARC or eARC) of the audio device.
If the issue still occurs, follow these additional troubleshooting steps:
Troubleshooting
- Disconnect the HDMI cable from both devices and reconnect it.
- On your TV, set the speaker settings to Audio System.
- Note: Your audio system doesn't automatically produce sound when you connect the cable.
- On your audio system, press the INPUT or TV button to switch the input to TV.
- Check the OPTICAL/COAXIAL setting: Setup → Input Setup → OPTICAL/COAXIAL
- If set to NONE, then change to OPT setting.
- Turn off the TV and the audio system.
- Turn on the TV first, then turn on the audio system.
- On your TV speaker settings, set the Digital Audio Output to PCM. If the audio system connected to the TV doesn't support DTS or Dolby Digital, it may not output sound depending on the type of broadcast or video.
Set the digital audio out to PCM
Set the Digital audio out to PCM on your Android TV™device:
- On the supplied remote, press the HOME button.

Clear cache & reset
- Clear cache and clear data on your Android TV device.
- Perform a power reset on the TV and audio system:
- Turn off the TV and the audio system.
- Disconnect the power cords (mains lead) and the HDMI cable from both the TV and audio system. Leave it disconnected for about a minute.
- Reconnect the HDMI cable to the HDMI IN (ARC or eARC) input of the TV and the HDMI OUT (ARC or eARC) of the audio system.
- Connect the power cords of both the TV and audio system, and turn on both devices.
- Turn on the TV first, then turn on the audio system.
