From the elimination of plastic in our packaging, to our accessibility features, find out how we’re building inclusivity and environmental consciousness into our products.
At Sony, we appreciate that our operations as a global corporation need to consider the environment. That’s why we’ve created our global environmental plan, Road to Zero, which aims to achieve a zero environmental footprint throughout the life cycle of our products and business activities by 2050.
Packaging and environment
As part of our environmentally conscious initiative drive, the Xperia 1 VII packaging uses paper materials and Sony’s OBM (Original Blended Material) only. See more details about our OBM below.
Meet our Original Blended Material
The Xperia 1 VII packaging uses paper and Sony’s OBM (Original Blended Material), which is made from bamboo, sugarcane fibres, and recycled paper. These materials are readily available around the world’s largest manufacturing hubs in Asia. The Xperia factory is also located in Asia, meaning that the device production is closer to the OBM resources, reducing the transport carbon footprint.
Recycled materials are used for all plastic parts in the Xperia 1 VII0
One of those materials is SORPLAS™, developed by Sony. SORPLAS™ is a recycled plastic with the environment in mind, that offers high performance, making it ideal for our new products. We use SORPLAS™ in our devices whenever possible to use this unique material without quality compromise0.
