Sony Corporation to offer new license packages tailored to the unique needs of volume photography applications
Intuitive solutions enable efficient workflow, consistency, and ease of operation, while streamlining equipment needs and accelerating the retouching process
Weybridge - UK, June 23, 2025 – Sony is launching a powerful new series of license packages built for volume photography applications, including school photography, theme parks, and cruise ships. Expanding on the company’s Custom Grid Line license, which allows users to pre-set tailored grid lines on the camera display to ensure consistent composition and sizing in high-volume settings, the latest user-friendly upgrade packages for the Alpha 6700 (ILCE-6700) enable standardisation and uniformity, while reducing time in the post-processing phase and minimising operating costs.
The Scan & Tag license streamlines data management and saves time and resources by effortlessly linking captured images with subject information and metadata in real-time, for ease of organisation. Specifically, QR codes and barcodes used for subject ID management can be read by the camera body and written into EXIF data in the JPEG file, which is the photo data. This allows the camera to complete the process of linking the ID information of QR codes and barcodes, which until now had to be done using a separate reading device or application.
In-camera photo cropping enables users to crop images to a pre-set aspect ratio instantly. When combined with the Custom Grid Line license (a separate paid license), photographers can generate a near-to-final image before a shoot is complete, saving valuable time and maximising turnaround times. This feature allows users to automatically save both the original image and the cropped image, offering two separate looks from a single shot. Additionally, photographers can capture vertical compositions, for example 8:10 aspect ratio, while holding the horizontal grip. This saves critical time and energy by eliminating the need to remove the tripod head or reposition the camera.
Volume Photography Commands are utilised through an application developed using the Camera Remote Toolkit. The license allows users to precisely fine-tune color temperature for ideal image quality. In addition, it can prevent shutter activation unless preset capture conditions are met, ensuring optimal results. These features ensure complete control over situations and help enable the best possible results.
Together, these new features and benefits support the unique needs of the volume photography community, combining ease of use, control, efficiency, and consistency with less manual input, less peripheral equipment, and faster results. By optimising the camera’s capabilities and settings, photographers with various experience levels can focus on getting the best possible images out of their subjects without worrying about missing a critical moment.
The licenses1, compatible with the ILCE-6700, are expected to be available on June 25, 2025 in Europe2 with expanded camera support planned for the future.
