The TV channel FOLKETINGET choses Sony Optical Disc Archive for security, durability, scalability and optimum power consumption
Sony Professional Nordic will provide a library for the Danish Parliament's own TV channel, which produces up to 18 hours of TV a day.
Amsterdam – September 9th, 2016: The TV channel FOLKETINGET is the Danish national parliament's own TV channel, which records 2,000 - 3,000 hours of TV a year. The TV channel was established in 2009 and has since then produced content from the Parliamentary Chamber as well as from the standing committees of the Parliament.
"We broadcast and record 6 hours a day on average and up to 14 hours a day from the Parliamentary Chamber. We also record 9 hours a day on average from committee meetings in 10 smaller conference rooms. There are often up to 6 meetings at the same time," says senior project manager Richard Mongin Forrest, the TV channel FOLKETINGET. In this way the broadcaster can produce a large volume of content in real time and store it in the safe and reliable archive system.
In the Parliamentary Chamber there are 9 cameras, while there are 5 in most smaller conference rooms. The footage is broadcast in real time on FOLKETINGET's own TV channel, which can be viewed by everybody via Televisions or online. In addition, the TV signal is distributed to the national broadcasters DR and TV 2.
As a new facility in connection with the transition to Optical Disc Archive storage, the TV channel FOLKETINGET will establish a MAM system, so that other external media and journalists can get access to archived content in broadcasting quality straight from FOLKETINGET's Optical Disc Archive.
"Sony Optical Disc Archive - has many advantages. We chose it due to the high level of security. It’s able to endure salt water for a limited period of time. In addition, the system is easy to scale as needed, you can search it very quickly, and it is easy to store backups in different locations. Finally, it uses very little energy, which also played a role in our decision. Furthermore, the media has a guaranteed life span of 100 years," explains the project manager of FOLKETINGET Richard Mongin Forrest.
The TV channel FOLKETINGET has chosen Sony Optical Disc Archive with a capacity of 800 terabytes, which will be able to contain the daily operation for the next 4-5 year as well as the historical footage from 2002 up to today.
It will be delivered on behalf of Sony by Hammerich Media & IT Supplies in Allerød, Denmark at the beginning of September this year. For more information please visit: pro.sony.eu.
