Sony progresses IP Collaboration with Evertz at IBC 2015

Sony and Evertz demonstrate new technologies to drive transition to 4K IP-based broadcast and production

Basingstoke, September 11th, 2015: At IBC 2015, Sony is proud to announce progress of IP interoperability as part of its continuing collaboration to integrate Evertz Software Defined Video Networking (SDVN) solution and Sony’s IP Live Production System.

The industry leading IP innovators will demonstrate the seamless integration of these technologies in each other’s IBC booths, Evertz #3.C20 in Hall 3 and Sony #12.A10 in the Hall 12, RAI Amsterdam. Each demonstration will include Sony’s IP Live Production System and the Evertz SDVN system.

As the latest outstanding development, Evertz’s high capacity switch fabrics including EXE and 3080-IPX are being leveraged as the routing core of Sony IP Live Production System Network. This development allows both companies to deliver a comprehensive solution for live production environments.

“Evertz is a key partner company to collaboratively develop IP based end-to-end workflow which can be an industry driver for nurturing and standardising future architectures of IP video and audio network infrastructure and interoperability,” said Hiroshi Kiriyama, Senior General Manager of Content Creation Solutions Business Division, Sony Corporation. “Our collaboration with Evertz and IP Live Production System technology developments will ensure that media and entertainment industry customers’ requirements for end-to-end IP-based networked solutions are fulfilled.”

Sony IP Live Production System is a value-added solution that increases operational efficiency while providing robust support for high-value modalities such as 4K and 8K. The IP Live Production System streamlines and modernises live broadcast workflows, in addition to supporting next generation technologies emerging in content creation.

The core of the SDVN solution is “MAGNUM”, Evertz Orchestration and Control System. MAGNUM addresses the ever-growing challenges broadcasters face as facilities become larger, more complex and distributed. MAGNUM is designed to unify the control and operation of hybrid SDI and IP facilities including the routing core, master control, production switching, advanced transport and multi-viewers.

“We are excited to be working with Sony to deliver compelling IP solutions to the marketplace,” said Eric Fankhauser, Vice President, Product Development at Evertz. “It’s great that two industry innovators can work together to deliver an integrated IP solution from production to playout based on Evertz SDVN and IP Infrastructure solutions and Sony’s IP Live Production System. This collaboration will certainly help smooth the transition to IP-based facilities and workflows.”
