Telegenic looks to the future with HDC-4300 investment
Sony HDC-4300 cameras to be used for HD shooting at Rugby World Cup before future 4K projects with Telegenic’s T25 OB truck
Basingstoke; September 11th, 2015: Sony has today announced that leading outside broadcast company Telegenic has invested in 14 of its industry-leading HDC-4300 4K/HD live production system cameras. Each of the cameras will be installed in the company’s T25 4K outside broadcast vehicle, after first being used to capture HD footage of the 2015 Rugby World Cup.
The HDC-4300 is the world’s first three 2/3-inch 4K imaging device, capable of shooting not only superb 4K, but also HD and super slow motion footage for live broadcast. Developed with fast-paced sports coverage in mind, the camera’s HFR shooting capability ensures that none of the action is missed.
Designed to meet the requirements of both current and future live sports productions, the ability to shoot in both 4K and HD made the HDC-4300 the ideal choice for Telegenic’s T25 OB truck. This capability allows the camera to seamlessly integrate into current HD workflows as well as 4K productions, helping Telegenic to bridge the transition between formats as more broadcasters explore ultra high definition sports broadcasting. The HDC-4300 brings additional on-the-ground flexibility, as it is also compatible with a wide range of existing products and workflows, including viewfinders, large lens adaptors and camera control units.
“We’ve always taken pride in harnessing the best technology available to deliver an outstanding quality of broadcasts,” commented Sean Mulhern, director of engineering at Telegenic. “Having worked with Sony on 4K sports production since the Confederations Cup in 2013, we knew that the company’s experience and technology is unrivalled when it comes to ultra high definition. Bearing in mind the numerous projects with varied requirements which the new cameras will be used for, the flexibility of shooting in both 4K and HD made the HDC-4300 the natural choice for us.”
Norbert Paquet, Strategic Marketing Manager at Sony Professional Europe commented: “Developed for sports production, the HDC-4300 is future-proofed with flexibility at its core. Used as an HD camera it will easily integrate into the Rugby World Cup’s production workflows, bringing higher image quality than other live production cameras on the market, thanks to its excellent sensitivity. Through this significant investment for its 4K OB truck, Telegenic is ensuring that it answers the versatility and flexibility requirements of its customers now and in the future.”
Telegenic will be using its HDC-4300 cameras to shoot HD footage for all of the 2015 Rugby World Cup matches taking place at the home of rugby, Twickenham Stadium. This will begin with the opening game on Friday 18th September, between England and Fiji, through to the final on Saturday 31st October.
Delegates IBC 2015 will have the opportunity to see the HDC-4300 first hand, as the camera makes its European trade show debut. Visitors to the Sony stand in Hall 12 (Elicium Hall) will be able to learn more about the camera, including the latest firmware upgrade, which will provide the ability to capture in 4K at 100p.
