Sony delivers two new 4K Laser projection solutions for large-format viewing

The newly developed 5,000 lumen models expand an immersive world
- one targets planetariums, theme parks, retail, museums; the other flight simulation, visualisation, and training.

Basingstoke, June 2nd 2015: Sony just unveiled two new projectors that expand its line-up of 4K laser light source projectors.

The new projectors are the VPL-GTZ270, designed for entertainment use in planetariums, theme parks, museums and retail; and the VPL-GTZ280 for simulation, visualisation and training usage.

Both 5,000 lumen models have native SXRDTM 4K (4096x2160) resolution, and join Sony’s VPL-GTZ1 model to create a family of versatile 4K laser light source projectors designed for a range of B2B and commercial applications. Both can also operate in 4K 3D mode.

Like Sony’s other laser light source projectors, The VPL-GTZ270 and the VPL-GTZ280 can deliver up to 20,000 hours of operation with virtually zero maintenance (or up to 40,000 hours in low brightness mode), by removing the costs normally associated with bulb replacement thus reducing total lifetime ownership costs. This also means staff can avoid the risk of climbing scaffolding and ladders to perform maintenance on lamps and filters.

Constant brightness mode and periodic auto calibration further contribute to longer life operation. The projectors’ SXRD panel also creates a deep black image with reduced white band visibility for multi-projection blending.

Both models have sealed optics for dust-resistance when used in high-traffic areas, and run quietly with operational noise of less than 35dB. The new projectors also offer flexible installation options with complete tilt angle free capabilities including clockwise or counter clockwise, portrait or landscape orientation, forward or back.
VPL- GTZ270

The VPL-GTZ270 is designed to create an immersive, realistic viewing experience in the entertainment market, with image enhancement functions including “Reality Creation” upscaling and High Dynamic Range (HDR)* capability giving users the ability to view the entire range of an image accurately and clearly. A wide colour space covers the full DCI range and simulates the new ITU-R BT2020 colour gamut.

A new chassis design enables easy handling and stacking of multiple projectors.

VPL- GTZ280

The VPL-GTZ280 uses high-speed motion functions and new high-speed 4K 120Hz signal processing capability for 4K 3D 60Hz in each eye and reduces blur in fast motion scenes, in addition to smear and transport delay reduction, infrared light output for night vision simulation and vibration resistance.

The new VPL- GTZ270 will be available at the beginning of 2016 and the VPL- GTZ280 in the spring 2016.

*HDR is an emerging video format that can display a wider range of brightness levels which will allow content creators to expand their range of creativity.
