My Android TV can't play back content stored on my home network server

    Your Android™ TV can't play films, videos, images, or audio files stored on your home network server if the file's codec is unsupported and you are connected through a proxy. 

    To play back files stored on your home network server, it is necessary to establish a connection between the Android TV and the server.

    • Make sure that your TV supports the codec of the files you want to play. For supported codecs, check your TV Help guide.
    • Make sure that your TV isn't connected to a proxy server. Depending on your TV's software version, disable the Proxy settings.

    Adjust the Network settings

    BRAVIA TV-side setup

    1. Using the supplied remote control, press the HOME button.
    2. Select  Settings.
    3. Select Network in the NETWORK & ACCESSORIES category.
    4. Select Home network setup.
    5. Select Server diagnostics.
    6. Select Yes.
    • NOTE: The "Servers could not be found" message will be displayed if devices are not connected.

    Server-side setup

    • Refer to the instruction manual of your server equipment to connect it to the home network.

    Disable the Proxy settings

    If a proxy is set, the contents of the home network cannot be played. Follow the steps below to disable the Proxy settings

    For Android™ 7.0 (Nougat) or later 

    1. Using the supplied remote control, press the HOME button.
    2. Select  Settings.
    3. Select Network in the NETWORK & ACCESSORIES category.
    4. Select Network setup.
    5. Select Expert.
      • If you're using a wired LAN, select Proxy settings in the Wired LAN category.
      • If you're using a wireless LAN, select SSID in Available networks, then select Proxy settings.
    6. Select NONE.

    For Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) or earlier

    1. Using the supplied remote control, press the HOME button.
    2. Select Settings.
    3. Select Network in the NETWORK & ACCESSORIES category.
    4. Select Network setup.
    5. Select Expert.
      • If you're using a wired LAN, select Wired LAN.
      • If you're using a wireless LAN, select Wi-Fi and select SSID.
    6. Select Advanced options.
    7. Select Proxy settings.
    8. Select NONE.
