The camera display does not automatically switch from the LCD screen to the viewfinder

Applicable Products and Categories of This Article

The eyepiece sensor is automatically disabled while the LCD screen is open. Therefore, the camera display will not automatically switch when looking through the viewfinder.

When the LCD is open, this gives the Live View function priority to help with shooting in a high or low position for achieving desired portrait or landscape compositions.

To switch to the viewfinder display, close the LCD screen or press the FINDER/MONITOR (FINDER/LCD) button on the camera.

NOTE: Not all cameras have FINDER/MONITOR button. To see if your camera has the function, refer to the manual supplied with the product.

NOTE: If the issue is not resolved, check the following:

  • Make sure that the eyepiece sensor is clean.
  • Wipe off dust or facial oil that may have gotten to the eyepiece sensor.
  • For cameras with tilting display screens, in some cases, light reflection can trigger the eyepiece sensor to switch displays. Set the FINDER/MONITOR (FINDER/LCD) setting to MONITOR (LCD Monitor) to prevent the camera from switching display automatically.
