Getting Started

Using your earbuds for the first time

The first time you turn on the earbuds, they will automatically enter pairing mode. After that, there are three ways to pair your WF-1000XM6 to your device.

Google Fast Pair

Just put your earbuds into pairing mode near your Android phone and Fast Pair will connect them with a single tap

Swift Pair

Pop-up pairing guidance appears on nearby Windows 11 or Windows 10 devices when pairing mode is selected.

Manual pairing

The first time you take these earbuds out of the case, they will automatically enter pairing mode. Next time you want to pair, put the earbuds in the case but leave the lid open, then hold the pairing button on the back of the case until the indicator flashes blue.

Download the app to adjust settings, including Multipoint Connection, Ambient Sound mode, and more. Lots of the settings we mention on this page can be tailored to your preferences using Sound Connect.

How to wear

How to wear WF-1000XM6 correctly

If the WF-1000XM6 are not placed in your ears correctly, you may experience problems with tapping, poor sound quality, or poor call performance. Here we will show you how to place them correctly.

Multipoint Connection

Connect your earbuds to two Bluetooth® devices simultaneously, so you can wait for an incoming call on one device while listening to music on the other

How to set up Multipoint Connection

Follow these steps to pair the earbuds with each device individually, then connect to both at once.

1. Operate the device on which the Sony | Sound Connect app is installed to establish a Bluetooth connection with the earbuds.

2. Within the app, turn on the setting “Connect to 2 devices simultaneously”.

3. Operate the second device to establish a Bluetooth connection with the earbuds.

Confirm Multipoint Connection

Within the Sony | Sound Connect app, you'll see both devices that are currently connected.

Sound Features

Noise Cancelling

The collaboration between advanced processors and adaptive noise cancelling algorithms tailors cancellation to your surroundings. From commute to café, distractions are reduced so your listening stays clear and focused.

Ambient Sound Control

Ambient Sound mode enables WF-1000XM6 to capture more of the ambient sound around you thanks to the external and internal microphones, so you can enjoy a natural listening experience while staying connected to your environment.

How to get started with Ambient Sound mode

In the Sony | Sound Connect app, select “Ambient Sound Control”.

Switch on Ambient Sound if it isn’t already on – you can adjust the noise detection sensitivity in 20 levels.

You can also use the “Auto Ambient Sound” setting to adjust the level of transparency automatically based on your surroundings.

Adaptive Sound Control

Adaptive Sound Control is a smart function that detects what is happening around you and adjusts Noise Cancelling and Ambient Sound settings for the ideal listening experience.

How to start and adjust Adaptive Sound Control

Just open the Sony | Sound Connect app and switch it on to use its default detection mode.

If you want to customize it even further, you can adjust Noise Cancelling or External Sound Capture preference through the app.

Optimise the switching for you

This feature learns how you use the earbuds while using Adaptive Sound Control and switches settings at an optimal time.

Just enable this setting and follow the on-screen prompt to sign into your Sony | Sound Connect app.

Sound Customisation

Sony | Sound Connect app is a newly developed support app for Sony headphones and speakers. It allows users to not only access a range of features, but also to tailor the sound to your own taste.

With 9 presets and 2 customisable presets, you can easily and quickly select the best sound for you.

Find your Equaliser

Find your equaliserIn the Sony | Sound Connect app, you can find your favourite sound balance by selecting the sound while listening to music.

The configured values can be saved in "Custom 2" of the equaliser menu.

DSEE (Digital Sound Enhancement Engine) Extreme

DSEE Extreme analyses music using machine learning models to upscale compressed digital music files in real time. It dynamically recognises individual elements of each song, such as vocals or interludes, and restores the high-range sounds lost in compression, for a richer listening experience.

Speak-to-Chat

Set up your earbuds so that when you want to have a conversation, all you need to do is start talking.

How to start using Speak-to-Chat

Need to get a word in? The Speak-to-Chat function lets you automatically pause your music just by starting to speak.

Have the conversations you need to without touching or removing your headphones.

Adjust your settings

In the Speak-to-Chat settings, you can adjust your Voice Detect Sensitivity to avoid activating the feature by accident.

Using the default settings, Speak-to-Chat will deactivate after about 15 seconds* if it detects no voices, or you can cancel it by using the touch sensor or button.

*You can adjust the time until the mode closes from 5, 15 or

30 seconds within the Sony | Sound Connect app.

Quick Access

Quick Access to your favourite music

With Quick Access, you can configure your WF-1000XM6 to resume Spotify music playback or Endel personalised soundscapes with two or three taps – no need to touch your smartphone.

In the "System" menu, find the "Quick Access" setting. Select the cog icon to adjust what the Quick Access button does. E.g. Press the button three times to resume Spotify.

Head Gestures

Control headphones with head gestures

With WF-1000XM6, you can control certain operations using natural head gestures, such as receiving or declining calls, or operating Auto Play, by nodding or shaking your head.

Go to the "System" menu of the Sony | Sound Connect app to calibrate this feature upon first use.

Firmware Update

Latest firmware update

When using the Sony | Sound Connect app, it will let you know when there is a new update to download.

Make sure you have the latest firmware updated on your headphones so any bug fixes and improvements will be applied.
