BRAVIA TV Screen mirroring or Wi-Fi Direct not working – how to fix it

IMPORTANT: This article applies only to specific products and/or operating systems. Check Applicable Products and Categories for details.

If Screen Mirroring or Wi-Fi Direct doesn't work on your BRAVIA TV, try the following steps.

    Before you start

For both Wi-Fi Direct and Screen mirroring:

    • Make sure your TV software is updated to the latest version to ensure compatibility with the latest mobile devices and features.
    • Check for wireless interference. Wireless devices such as routers, cordless phones, radios, Bluetooth speakers, or microwaves, emit strong radio waves that may disrupt Wi-Fi Direct or Screen Mirroring performance. Try moving these wireless devices away from the TV and mobile device or computer.
    • The video quality may drop due to environmental interference.

    For Screen Mirroring only:

    • Device compatibility:
Some BRAVIA TVs and Xperia mobile devices support Screen Mirroring through Miracast technology. Compatibility with devices from other manufacturers isn't guaranteed.
    • Only one device at a time:
If another device is already connected to your TV via Screen Mirroring, disconnect it first before connecting to a new device.

    Troubleshooting steps

TIP: Not sure what kind of TV you have? See How to check if your BRAVIA TV is a Google TV™, Android TV™, or other TV.

Step 1: Check compatibility and setup

Make sure your TV and mobile device (or computer) support the feature you're using (i.e., Wi-Fi Direct or Screen Mirroring), and that the setup is done correctly. For more information about each feature, refer to the following articles:

    Step 2: Restart both devices

    • Reboot your mobile device or computer.
    • Restart your TV:
      1. For Google TV or Android TV:
      2. For other TVs:
        • Turn off the TV, unplug it from the power outlet, wait about 2 minutes, plug the power cord (mains lead) back into the outlet, and then turn on the TV.

Step 3: Turn off Bluetooth (for Android TV only)

Turning off Bluetooth on your Android TV may help avoid wireless interference.

    1. On the remote control, press the HOME button.
    2. Go to Settings.
    3. Select Remote & Accessories or Network & Accessories.
    4. Select Bluetooth settings.
    5. Select Bluetooth or Bluetooth On, and set it to Off.
Note: Depending on your TV model, the supplied remote control may use a Bluetooth connection. Turning off Bluetooth could disable some remote functions, so make sure to turn it back on after completing the connection.

Step 4: Remove and re-register your device

Remove your device from the TV's Wi-Fi Direct list (Show Device List/Delete), then try connecting it again.

Step 5: Change the Wi-Fi channel (if available)

Sometimes, changing the Wi-Fi channel helps improve wireless connection stability.

Note: Android 8.0 and later (including Google TV) do not have this setting.

For Android TV (wired LAN only):

    1. On the remote control, press the HOME button.
    2. Select Network in the NETWORK & ACCESSORIES category.
    3. Select Wi-Fi Direct → Advanced settings → Band setting → Manual.
    4. Choose a different Channel.

    For other TVs:

    1. Make sure your TV and wireless router (access point) are not connected using a 12 or 13-channel frequency. BRAVIA TVs may not appear on compatible devices if those channels (12 or 13) are used.
Note: Contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) for assistance with verifying this setting.
    2. Change the wireless channel frequency of your wireless router to any number between 1 ch and 11 ch.
Note: Refer to the manual of your wireless router for detailed information regarding how to change the wireless channel frequency.
