What are the button functions of my Sony TV remote control?

(Power)

• Press the power button to turn your TV on and off.
• You can press and hold the power button to reset your TV quickly when you encounter an issue.

Hint

• For some TV models, you can use the ‘find remote’ feature to find the remote control by pressing and holding the power button on the TV.
  For details, refer to this page in the Help Guide: Finding the remote control (only models supplied with a buzzer built-in remote control).

TV

• Press the TV button to switch to a TV channel or input and display the TV menu.
• If your TV has multiple inputs (e.g., HDMI, AV, USB), pressing the TV button can switch the display back to the built-in TV tuner (for cable, satellite, or antenna channels).

(MIC)

The black circle on the remote is the microphone. When using voice commands, speak into it directly. An LED is located above the microphone and will light up when it is in use. 

/ (Quick Settings)

The cogwheel or wrench icon buttons allow you to display the Quick Settings.

• If you press the /(Quick Settings) button on the remote control, you can quickly access features (Picture mode, Sleep timer, Picture Off, Audio output) on the current screen.
• You can also go further into the general Settings section via the Quick Settings menu.

(Input select)

The Input button on your remote control lets you switch between devices connected to your TV. For example, if you have a gaming console, Blu-ray player, or set-top box connected to your TV, pressing the Input button lets you choose which one to display on the screen.

You can cycle through the different devices by pressing the Input button multiple times.

123 / MENU (Control menu)

The 123 or MENU button (depending on your remote control) displays a pop-up menu on the TV with functions that do not have a dedicated button. 

This is where you will find the numeric pad and other functions on these minimalistic remotes. 

(Up) / (Down) / (Left) / (Right) / (Enter) (Navigation D-Pad)

The navigation circle lets you move through on-screen menus using the arrow buttons. Press the center button to confirm your selection.

(BACK)

The back button returns you to the previous screen.

(HOME)

The HOME button returns you to your TV’s home menu. From there, you can search for content and select recommended content, apps, and settings.

+/- (Volume)  CH +/- (Channel) and (Mute)

• The volume button   lets you adjust the volume. The plus sign (+) raises the volume, and the minus sign (-) lowers the volume. 
• If you want to turn the sound off entirely, press the mute button. Press the mute button again to unmute and restore the sound. 
• The CH + (Channel Up) and CH - (Channel Down) buttons on a TV remote are used to change channels when watching live TV (e.g., from an antenna, cable, or satellite).
• The channel buttons will work if your TV is set up to receive broadcast TV, cable, or satellite channels. However, they won’t work in apps like Netflix, YouTube, or Disney+, as those don’t use numbered TV channels.

Hint

• The accessibility shortcut service can be turned on or off by pressing and holding (Mute).

(Google Assistant)/(Microphone)

Google Assistant is your built-in, voice-controlled helper on your TV. It allows you to search, control, and interact with your TV and smart home devices using your voice.

Press the remote’s Google Assistant (or MIC) button to get started.

1. Press and hold the Google Assistant button on your remote control.
   The microphone on the remote control will activate when the button is pressed, and the LED on the remote control will light up.
2. Speak into the microphone while pressing and holding the Google Assistant button.
   Speech examples may be displayed depending on your model.

Hint

If you press the MIC button on the remote control and say “Voice hints,” information about how to speak and available voice commands will be displayed. This function may not be available depending on your model, region, country, and language.

Google Assistant is not available in certain languages/countries/regions.

(Play) / (Pause)

The Play and Pause button lets you control video playback when watching content on your TV.

• Press Pause once to pause a video, movie, or TV show. This stops the action so you can take a break.
• Press “Play” again to continue watching from where you left off.

 The Play/Pause button only works when watching videos from apps (like YouTube, Netflix) or a USB device. It won’t pause regular live TV unless your TV has a built-in recording or time-shift function.

(Guide)

The Guide button opens the TV program guide (also called the Electronic Program Guide - EPG).

• Press the Guide button to see what’s on TV right now and what’s coming up next.
• You can scroll through channels and check schedules for later shows.

This button won’t do anything if you’re watching apps like Netflix or YouTube.

(Dashboard)

Like the Quick Settings and Menu buttons, the Dashboard () button opens a settings dashboard, allowing access to selected settings or the full settings menu.

 App buttons (online streaming services)

App buttons provide one-touch access to popular streaming services. The apps on these buttons may vary depending on your remote model and region. Availability also depends on your country and may require a separate subscription.
