Read this section before starting the update.
This update uses the Sony | Sound Connect app. For information on downloading or updating the application, please refer to the Sony | Sound Connect app page, and for the update procedure, please refer to this page.

Preparation
Check the Firmware Version
If the firmware version is 2900, you do not need to perform the update. If you're not sure, it's easy to check which firmware version you have:
- Launch the Sony | Sound Connect app.
- Connect your speaker to the Sony | Sound Connect app.
- Scroll down the app, then tap All device settings → System in the red box of the app.
- Software version shown in the Menu. The version is shown only when the speaker is connected.
- Confirm the firmware version.
Important Notice
- Do not charge the battery or turn off your speaker while downloading/installing the update or transferring data.
Doing so may cause the speaker to stop working. - Do not perform the update in a location where the Wi-Fi signal is congested or inconsistent, such as on a train, near a microwave or cordless phone, or near any other devices that use the 2.4GHz radio frequency band.
- Make sure both the Android/iPhone device and speaker are fully charged.
- Disconnect all other Bluetooth devices such as smartwatches from your Android device or iPhone before starting the update.
- To update your speaker after taking them off, go to the Auto Power Off function in the Sony | Sound Connect app and select Do not turn off.
- If you select Off when speaker is taken off, your speaker will automatically turn off after approximately 15 minutes, and the data transfer of the update file will be interrupted. It will resume the next time your speaker turns on and the Bluetooth reconnects.
- You can restore the settings after the update is complete.
Before You Upgrade
- After updating, the firmware cannot return to an earlier version.
- For Android devices, the update will take approximately 30 minutes to complete.
- For iPhone devices, the update will take approximately 30 minutes to complete.
- The update process may take longer depending on the radio wave environment and your Android/iPhone device.
Download & Install
Follow the steps below to update the speaker
- Download the data from the server to the Android/iPhone device.
- Transfer the data from the Android/iPhone device to the speaker.
- Complete the update with the speaker.
Step 1: Install the Update
- Launch the Sony | Sound Connect app.
- Connect your speaker to the Sony | Sound Connect app.
- If you have never connected to the Sony | Sound Connect app before, follow the instructions on the screen to connect the speaker to your Android/iPhone device.
- If you have connected to the Sony | Sound Connect app before, select your speaker from the options available.
- The Dashboard screen will appear when the connection has been established.
- If an update is available, “The latest audio device software is available.” message will appear. Press MORE INFO to continue.
- Verify that Version 2900 is displayed, then press START to begin the update.
- Once the download starts, the next screen will automatically appear after the download is complete.
- For iPhone devices only: When the message “Bluetooth Pairing Request” is shown, press Pair. The update will resume.
- The transfer will start. The next screen will automatically appear after the download and transfer are complete.
This will take approximately one minute.- Do not charge the battery or turn off your speaker while downloading/installing the update or transferring data. Doing so may cause the speaker to stop working.
- If a “disconnection” message appears, wait until the speaker automatically reconnects.
- When the software update is complete, press OK.
- If the “Software update complete.” screen does not appear, proceed to Step 2 below to check whether the version has been successfully upgraded.
Step 2: Check the Update Was Successful
After the update, confirm the new version has been installed successfully by following the steps in the Check the Firmware Version section.
- If the firmware version shown is 2900, the upgrade was successful.
Questions & Answers
An Update Error Message Appears
- Press OK.
- Restart the speaker (turn the power off and then on).
- Restart the Sony | Sound Connect app and try the update again.
Even though the update failed during the process, you can check the firmware version to confirm if the update was successful or not.
- If the version shown is 2900, the firmware update was successful. If not, try the firmware update again.
