How to set and change default apps on your Xperia smartphone (Android 9 or higher)

You can customise the apps on your Xperia smartphone by setting a default app or replacing it with a third-party app. 

Note: This article applies to Xperia smartphones with Android 9 or higher.

How to set a default app

1. Find and tap Settings → Apps & notifications / (Apps) → Default apps.
2. Tap the type of app you want to set, then tap the app you want to use as default.

Which default apps can I change?

It is possible to replace a default app with a third-party app (e.g. changing the browser from Chrome to Firefox). 

You can change the following default apps on your Xperia smartphone:

• Assist & voice input / Assist app / Digital assistant app
• Browser app
• Home app
• Phone app
• SMS app
• Tap & Pay (Android 9)
