    • Addition of HDMI simultaneous output mode: during movie recording standby, the camera will be able to display smooth 50fps video simultaneously on both external monitor connected via HDMI and LCD screen of the camera.
      Note: the camera needs to be in Movie mode with [HDMI Info. Display] set to [Off].

The following benefits and improvements by the previous upgrade program are included in version 1.02:

Confirm the firmware version of your camera

Follow the instructions below to check the firmware version of your camera.
If the firmware version is Ver.1.02 or later, the update is not required.

  1. SelectMenu-->Setup-->Versionon the camera.
  2. The firmware version is displayed as illustrated below.

The latest version of the firmware update iscompatible with the following Macintosh versions:
  • Mac OS X v.10.5 ~ 10.10

Computer hardware

The latest version of the firmware update iscompatible with the following hardware:
  • CPU: Intel processor*
    * Core Solo and Core Duo processors are no longer supported.
  • Hard disk space: 200MB or more
  • RAM: 512MB or more
    Note:Please close all other application software before updating the firmware.
  • Power source for the camera
    • Fully charged rechargeable battery pack NP-FM500H
      or
      AC adapter AC-PW10AM (sold separately)
      Note: The update can be performed only when the remaining battery level is (three marks) or more. We recommend that you use a fully charged battery or the AC adapter AC-PW10AM (sold separately).
  • USB cable supplied with the camera
    Note: Update functionality is not guaranteed with any other USB cable.

Important notes:

  • When performing the firmware update, please use a fully charged rechargeable battery pack NP-FM500H or the AC adapter AC-PW10AM (sold separately).
  • Do not remove the battery or AC adapter during the update; otherwise, the camera may become inoperable due to the sudden power shutdown.
  • Remove the memory card from the camera beforehand.
  • Do not cover Eyepiece sensors during the update; otherwise, the LCD monitor may switch to the Viewfinder. If you can not see anything on the LCD monitor, please press the [FINDER / LCD button].
  1. Make sure that you are logged on as a user with administrative rights.
  2. At the bottom of the page, read the disclaimer and agree to the terms and conditions by clicking on the checkbox. Then, click on theDownloadbutton.
  3. The download of the [Update_SLTA99V102.dmg] file (87.4 MB (91.727.631 bytes)) will start.
  4. Save the file to the desktop of your computer (recommended).

Install

  1. Close all currently running programs on your computer.
  2. Double-click the [Update_SLTA99V102.dmg] file you downloaded. Do not connect the camera at this point.
  3. Double-click the [Update_SLTA99V102] icon which appears on the Desktop.
  4. Double-click the [FirmwareUpdater] icon.
  5. To load a kernel extension, the message prompts you to allow the application to make changes. Type the password for the administrative account.



  6. Firmware Updater starts up.



  7. According to the instruction on the Firmware Updater window, selectMenu-->Setup-->USB Connectionon the camera, and check ifMass Storageis selected.
    If another mode thanMass Storageis selected, please selectMass Storage.



  8. If it has not been done already, remove the memory card from the camera.
  9. Connect the camera to the computer with the supplied USB cable.
    Note:USB Modeappears on the LCD monitor of the camera.
  10. After confirming the above, clickNexton the Firmware Updater window.Figure 1appears on the Firmware Updater window, andFigure 2appears on the LCD screen of the camera.
    • When clickingNext, do not cover Eyepiece sensors (Figure 2.1) during the update; otherwise, the LCD monitor may switch to the Viewfinder. If you can not see anything on the LCD monitor, please press the [FINDER / LCD button] (Figure 2.1).
    • IfFigure 2does not appears on the LCD screen of the camera, please disconnect the USB cable from the camera, and proceed to the "Recovery procedure" detailed at the bottom of the page.
    Note: From now on, never turn off the camera until the firmware update is completed.

  11. After confirming the screens onFigures 1 and 2, clickNext. The current version and the version after the update appear on the lower left part of the screen.(Figure 3)
  12. After confirming [Current version] is[Ver.1.01 or lower], clickNext.

    If [Current version] is [Ver.1.02], the update is not required. According to the message, stop the USB connection and clickFinish. Turn off the camera, remove the battery pack or the AC adapter, reinsert the battery or reconnect the AC adapter and turn on the camera.

  13. The screen onFigure 4appears.

  14. Press the center of the [Multi-selector] to execute the reset of the camera.


    Note: The screen turns off when the center of the [Multi-selector] is pressed. Please proceed to the next step.

  15. ClickNexton the Firmware Updater Window(Figure 4).
  16. After resetting, reconnection of the camera is verified, and the screen onFigure 5appears.
  17. ClickRunto start the update. The progress bar appears while updating(approximately 10 minutes).
    Note:Never turn off the camera nor disconnect the USB cable while updating.

  18. When the update is completed, the screen onFigure 6appears. ClickFinishand disconnect the USB cable.

  19. Turn off the camera, remove the battery pack or the AC adapter, reinsert the battery or reconnect the AC adapter and turn on the camera.

Confirm the firmware version of your camera is Ver.1.02.
