    For the owners of the NWZ-E443/E444/E445 WALKMAN, we offer a firmware update program download service.
    Please read carefully the following instructions.

    Release date

    • 27/11/2009

    Target Device

    NWZ-E443/E444/E445 series WALKMAN with firmware version 1.00.

    Fixed symptoms

    You may experience the following symptoms.

    • You may not be able to play back the WALKMAN under the following conditions:
      • When the "WALKMAN" is connected to NAS-SC500PK or CMT-LX50WMR and its function is set to [WM-PORT].
      • When the BCR-NWU5 is disconnected from the PC under the condition that the "WALKMAN" is connected to BCR-NWU5 with the PC.

    These symptoms will be fixed with this firmware update.

    Additional function

    By updating the firmware, you can experience new features:

    • The products can be used by computers being installed OS of Windows 7.
      • The applied edition of the OS is "Home Basic", "Home Premium", "Professional" and "Ultimate".
      • The software, "Content Transfer Ver.1.2", supplied with the products is not compatible with Windows 7. In case you use Windows 7 with the target products, please download Content Transfer Ver.1.3.

    How to confirm the Model and the Firmware version

    1. Press and hold the BACK/HOME button until the Home menu appears.
    2. Pressbutton to select(Settings), and then press button.
    3. Pressbutton to select Common Settings, and then press button.
    4. Pressbutton to select Unit Information, and then press button.
      Confirm the Model and the Firmware version.

    Display resolution: 800 x 600 or higher (1024 x 768 or higher is recommended)
    Display Color: High Color (16bit) or higher

    Before downloading

    When downloading the program and updating the firmware, log on to the computer with the administrator name or with any name which belongs to the administrator.
    If your computer is installed with Windows Vista, then following message may appear: "Windows needs your permission to continue". In this case, click Continue to proceed and follow the onscreen instructions.

    Install

    Please follow the steps below to download the program.

    1. Create a folder named "FWUP" on the C drive of your computer to store the downloaded file.
    2. Before downloading accept the terms and conditions at the end of this page.
    3. Download the following file to the folder created in Step1.
      NWZ-E440_V1_01.exe (9,339KB)
    4. After the download is completed, check that the file is correct: open Windows Explorer and make sure that the file size is 9,339KB. If the file size is different, download the file again.

    Update procedure

    Once the download is finished, follow the steps below to update the program.

    Note:

    To perform this update, the WALKMAN needs to have at least 50MB free space.
    We strongly recommend that you first back up all the data (music and files) contained in your WALKMAN to your computer before proceeding with the update.

    1. Connect the unit to the PC.
    2. Close all running programs in Windows.In case Content Transfer starts automatically, close it and close all other running programs in Windows.
    3. Browse to the update file located in the FWUP folder on the C drive of your computer. Double-click the NWZ-E440_V1_01.exe file.
    4. The update program will now start.
    5. Follow the onscreen instructions and make sure that the WALKMAN is not disconnected from the computer before the update is complete, although USB disconnection messages may sometimes appear on your computer.
    6. At the end of the update process, the message that the update is complete appears. Click Finish. Your WALKMAN is now updated.

    Errors that may occur during the update process

    • In case the PC shows "The update data file cannot be transferred because there is not enough available disk space in the device."



      Delete some songs or files contained in the WALKMAN, or transfer them to the PC in order to have at least 50MB free space in the WALKMAN.
    • In case the PC shows "The software update of the NWZ-E443 (or NWZ-E444/E445) device to version 1.01 timed out."



      The update may have failed. Click Finish. Follow the Update procedure and try to update again.

    When the update is complete



    Make sure that your WALKMAN is correctly updated by checking the firmware version:

    1. Press and hold the BACK/HOME button until the Home menu appears.
    2. Pressbutton to select(Settings), and then press button.
    3. Pressbutton to select Common Settings, and then press button.
    4. Pressbutton to select Unit Information, and then press button.
      Confirm the Model and the Firmware version.
