Your Sony guarantee: what you need to know
In general, Sony offers a standard 1 year guarantee that covers almost all Sony products. Some exceptions exist however:
- Xperia Products (e.g. smartphones) offer a standard 2 year guarantee
- lamps, projectors and batteries have a more limited guarantee
- Car & Marine Entertainment: XS-***ES high-end models benefit from a standard 3 year guarantee
If you do need a repair, you will have to show your original purchase documents. If you don’t have these, you will be charged for any repairs. Don’t worry, if you are certain you are within dealer warranty, your dealer should have copies available.
What main types of damage are not covered by my guarantee?
While your guarantee is immediately effective at the date of purchase, a few damage types are not covered by a standard guarantee. Below you can find 3 main damage categories that are not covered. Note that this list is not exhaustive, and you can read all the necessary information on guarantee conditions in Sony’s General Guarantee Conditions.
- Accidental damage
Accidental damage can be described as unintentional physical damage to your product. For example, when you drop your camera and crack the screen.
Even if there is no visible damage on the outside, internal product components could suffer damage because of an accidental drop.
- Liquid damage
Liquid damage is caused by exposing your product to any type of liquids when it is not labelled as waterproof. Water or other liquids can then enter the product and damage the internal components.
- Improper handling
A product will naturally show signs of wear and tear after being used for some duration of time. Improper handling of a product can speed up the aging process and is not covered by the guarantee. Improper handling often results in physical damage.
Extended warranty
On top of your regular guarantee, Sony provides an extended Warranty Service that allows you to extend your product warranty and offers other advantages. If you wish to purchase an extended service plan, please contact the dealer or store where you bought your Sony product.
