Most Sony products come with a standard 1-year warranty. However, some product categories have different warranty periods or conditions:
- Xperia products (such as smartphones) include a standard 2-year warranty.
- Certain products, such as lamps and batteries, are covered by more limited warranty terms.
Making a Warranty Claim
If your product requires repair under warranty, you will need to provide proof of purchase, such as your original receipt or invoice.
If proof of purchase cannot be provided, repairs will be treated as out-of-warranty, and charges will apply. If you no longer have your proof of purchase, please contact the retailer where you purchased your product, as they may be able to provide a copy of your receipt.
What Is Not Covered by the Warranty?
Your Sony warranty takes effect from the date of purchase. However, certain types of damage are not covered under the standard warranty.
Below are four common examples of damage that are excluded. Please note that this is not a complete list. For full details, refer to Sony's General Warranty Conditions.
1. Accidental Damage
Accidental damage refers to unintentional physical damage to your product. For example, dropping a camera and cracking the screen.
Even when no external damage is visible, an accidental impact may damage internal components.
2. Liquid Damage
Liquid damage occurs when a product that is not designed to be water-resistant or waterproof is exposed to liquids. Water or other liquids can enter the device and damage its internal components.
3. Improper Handling
Normal wear and tear is expected during the lifetime of a product. However, damage resulting from improper handling, misuse or neglect is not covered by the warranty.
Improper handling often leads to physical damage or accelerated wear beyond normal use.
4. Permanent Image Retention (Screen Burn-in)
Permanent image retention, also known as screen burn-in, refers to a situation where a static image or repeated visual elements become permanently visible on the display.
This can occur when the same image, logo or on-screen content is displayed continuously or repeatedly over a long period of time, particularly during constant projection or static viewing conditions.
For example, prolonged display of the same channel logo, user interface elements, or fixed images may lead to permanent discolouration or “ghost images” on the screen.
This type of damage is considered the result of usage conditions rather than a manufacturing defect and is therefore not covered under the standard warranty.
Extended Warranty
In addition to the standard warranty, Sony offers Extended Warranty, allowing you to extend your warranty coverage.
To purchase an extended warranty, please contact the retailer where you purchased your Sony product.
