Basic Information on BRAVIA CAM
Capabilities
What is the difference between the BRAVIA CAM and other cameras?
The
BRAVIA CAM supports not only Video chat but also Sony's original sensing feature, which will be available via a future firmware update.
How many cameras can I connect simultaneously to the TV?
BRAVIA TVs only support one camera connection.
Preparation/Initial Settings
How can I adjust the shooting range of the BRAVIA CAM? (this only applies to the included accessory BRAVIA CAM CMU-BC1M)
You can tilt the camera and adjust the vertical viewing angle. The horizontal angle can not be adjusted.
How do I use the Camera cover switch?
You can open or close the shutter by sliding the
Camera cover switch. If you want to use the camera functions, don't forget to open the shutter.
Do I need to change the BRAVIA CAM settings when I connect it to the TV?
You can use the
Camera sensing functions without changing any settings. If you want to change the settings, such as turning off the
BRAVIA CAM lamp, press the

(
Quick Settings) button on your remote control
→ select
Settings → Remotes and accessories → BRAVIA CAM.
Information on BRAVIA CAM's Camera sensing functions
General specifications
Notes:
- The camera sensing functions will be available after installing the latest software update.
- If your BRAVIA TV supports the camera sensing functions, Proximity Alert is displayed in the BRAVIA CAM settings. On the remote control, press the
(Quick Settings) button and select Settings → Remotes and accessories → BRAVIA CAM → Proximity Alert.
What is the sensing range of BRAVIA CAM?
BRAVIA CAM detects within a range of about 7 meters.
What if the distance from the TV recognised by the camera sensing function seems inaccurate?
That inaccuracy might be caused by the camera angle or the position of people between the TV and the camera. Please change the camera angle or position to get a more accurate result.
What to do if inanimate objects (photo, doll, animal, etc.) are being recognised as people and the camera sensing function is activated.
If an object looks like a person or a face (like a photo, doll, or animal), the camera might erroneously detect them. When you use the camera sensing function, move those things out of the camera's sight.
When I turn off a camera sensing function, such as Auto adjust Picture & Sound setting, a restart message appears.
A BRAVIA CAM restart is required to temporarily power off the camera when a camera sensing function is turned off. The camera sensing function will be unavailable for a while, but it will be restored. This restart doesn't change any settings.
Note: The same restart message appears when any of the camera sensing functions are turned off.

Auto adjust Picture & Sound
Notes:
- Not all TV models support the Auto adjust picture & sound feature. If your BRAVIA TV supports this feature, Auto adjust Picture & Sound is displayed in the Picture settings. On the remote control, press the Quick settings button, and select Settings → Display & Sound → Picture → Auto adjust Picture & Sound
- The Auto adjust picture & sound camera sensing features are available after a software update.
Where is the camera setting for Auto adjust picture & sound?
You can set
Auto adjust picture & sound by pressing the

(
Quick Settings) button on the remote control and then selecting
Picture settings → Auto adjust Picture & Sound.
Is it possible to set how the Auto adjust Picture & Sound function recognises people?
You can do this from the
Auto adjust Picture & Sound settings. On the remote control, press the

(
Quick Settings) button on the remote control, and then select
Picture settings → Auto adjust Picture & Sound.
Auto adjust Picture & Sound sometimes doesn't work
- This feature adjusts the picture and sound by detecting the positions of stationary people. It doesn't work while people are moving.
- Depending on the environment (e.g. too dark), this feature may not be able to detect people or work correctly.
I can't change the Picture/Sound setting (Brightness, Voice emphasis, Balance) after disabling the camera feature
If the camera is disconnected or the camera cover switch is closed while the
Auto adjust Picture & Sound setting is
ON, the
Brightness,
Voice emphasis, and
Balance get disabled. Please turn off the
Auto adjust Picture & Sound feature. On the remote control, press the

(
Quick Settings) button and select
Picture → Auto adjust Picture & Sound.
After using the Auto adjust Picture & Sound option, the set value doesn't return to the default.
After Auto adjust Picture & Sound is turned off, the value will remain unchanged. If you want to restore the original values, note the settings in advance and restore them manually.
Note: Settings adjusted by
Auto adjust Picture & Sound are as follows.
- Brightness
- Colour
- Sound Balance
- Voice Emphasis

Gesture Control
If your BRAVIA TV supports the Gesture Control function, Gesture Control is displayed in the BRAVIA CAM settings. On the remote control, press the
(Quick Settings) button and select Settings → System → Gesture Control.
Are there more gestures than those shown in the tutorial?
You can check the gesture type using the following settings:
On the remote control, press the

(
Quick Settings) button and select
Settings → System → Gesture Control → Gesture controls.
Gestures may not be recognised in the following circumstances:
- If the Camera cover switch is not open.
- If you perform gestures too close or too far from the camera.
- When your hand is too close to your body or face, it may not be recognised as a gesture. Please refer to the tutorial.
- If your hand movements are too fast or too exaggerated to be recognised. Try slowly moving your hand with smaller motions.
- If you block the camera's field of view.
- If the environment is too bright, the background colours are too similar, or there is an optically confusing pattern on your clothes.
- If your face and body cannot be seen or recognised by the camera.
- If the sensing function sees the movement of another nearby object, that object may be given preference over your gestures.
- If your gestures are not recognised even after trying everything, try unplugging and plugging in the camera.
Gestures can be detected by unintentional action:
- A Gesture may be detected when you move your hand or arm, similar to a Gesture action within the camera's line of sight.
- The camera may also recognise your foot as a hand if, for example, you lie down and your foot comes within the camera's field of view.
- If the camera frequently and incorrectly recognises a movement as a Gesture, stop that posture or movement, or turn the gesture function off temporarily.
Proximity Alert
- The camera sensing functions will be available after installing the latest software update.
- If your BRAVIA TV supports the Proximity Alert function, Proximity Alert is displayed in the BRAVIA CAM settings. On the remote control, press the
(Quick Settings) button and select Settings → Remotes and accessories → BRAVIA CAM → Proximity Alert.
The distance to launch the Proximity Alert is not accurate, or Proximity Alert doesn't work according to the distance
- There may be an error when there are differences, such as brightness and layout, between when the settings were first made and the time of use.
- Proximity Alert doesn't work well if the subject is too close to the camera.
- Proximity Alert doesn't work when a person is not facing the front of the camera.
Information on BRAVIA CAM's Video Chat
There's no image, but there is sound when I use the Video Chat application with BRAVIA CAM.
The shutter might be closed. Please open the shutter by the
Camera cover switch. Since the shutter status of the
BRAVIA CAM is implemented by Sony's original Protocol, a third party's video chat app cannot detect the camera's shutter state (open or closed).
The BRAVIA CAM isn't accessible after turning the TV OFF and ON with the remote control while using the Video Chat app on the camera.
Close the
Video Chat app, wait about 20-30 seconds, then open the app again, and the issue will be resolved.
The BRAVIA CAM stops working after I close and open the camera cover during a call while using Video Chat app.
Use the TV remote control to turn the TV
OFF and
ON, and the symptom will be resolved.
LED
What is the white LED indicator on the BRAVIA CAM, and when does it light up?

- The LED indicator will turn on during a video chat and when camera sensing functions are working.
- For camera sensing functions, you can turn off the LED indicator by following these steps: On the remote control, press the
(Quick Settings) button, and select Settings → Remote and accessories → ACCESSORY CAMERA "BRAVIA CAM" → Camera activity LED.
Note: Information from the camera sensing functions is not transmitted beyond the TV.
The camera LED indicator is lit even though the shutter has closed.
The LED indicator s lit because the TV recognises the
BRAVIA CAM. If the shutter has closed, the camera has not detected any sensing information.
Notes:
- You can turn off the LED indicator by following these steps: On the remote control, press the
(Quick Settings) button, and select Settings → Remote and accessories → ACCESSORY CAMERA "BRAVIA CAM" → Camera activity LED → Off. - When this setting is turned off, the LED only lights when the BRAVIA CAM is being used with the Video chat application.
Screen and Picture quality
The camera image is flashing (hunting) when shooting with a camera connected to the TV. (eg. preview/selfie application etc.)
There are some circumstances when flashing (hunting) will occur in a dark room. Brighten the surroundings to avoid this issue.
The camera image has white noise while shooting.
In dark conditions, the presence of white noise on the image will be increased. Brighten the surroundings to reduce the white noise.
The camera image has a flicker.
The
BRAVIA CAM has an auto anti-flicker function, but it may not work. Clear the camera settings by following these steps: On the remote control, press the

(
Quick Settings) button, and select
Settings → Remote and accessories → ACCESSORY CAMERA "BRAVIA CAM" → Clear Data.
Software update
The BRAVIA CAM update fails
- Check the connection between the TV and the BRAVIA CAM to ensure it is the proper connection for the camera and is not loose. Use a USB cable for the optional camera, or the touchpoint of the included Magnetic Camera)
- Use the remote control to turn off the TV, disconnect and reconnect BRAVIA CAM, and then try the update again.
- Do not remove the BRAVIA CAM during the camera update.
After removing and inserting BRAVIA CAM during a camera update, BRAVIA CAM does not respond.
When the camera is removed, it becomes temporarily unrecognised by the TV. Reboot the TV by turning it off and back on and the issue will be resolved. To avoid this and other issues in the future, do not remove the
BRAVIA CAM during a camera update.
Others
The BRAVIA CAM attached to the top centre of the TV is getting warm.
Depending on the conditions, the
BRAVIA CAM can become warm. This should be no problem during normal operations.
When should I use Clear data in the BRAVIA CAM settings?
The
Clear data function will erase the sensing information collected by the
BRAVIA CAM and stop and initialise all camera sensing functions. Use this function when you want to return all camera sensing functions to their initial state at the time of purchase.
