How to solve echoing during a phone call?
An echo is a sound reflection. It occurs when a listener hears a delayed sound after the original one. That means that if you can hear yourself echo through the phone, your counterpart can help solve the situation:
-
Check the surroundings – something is enabling the sound to bounce around. Try moving away from surfaces or move into a larger space to reduce the echo.
-
Speakerphone – Often an echo occurs because the listener has you on speaker. Ask to turn off the speaker and advise using the regular microphone.
-
Earphones – Alternatively, an echo can be solved by using headphones/earphones with a microphone, as they reduce background noise.
-
Cut the call – Occasionally, a transmission glitch causes an echo. As a last resort, end the call and try again.
