The camcorder does not power on

It takes a few seconds for your camcorder to be ready to shoot after the power is turned on. This is not a malfunction. Most power issues occur because the battery is not fully charged or because the battery pack needs to be replaced or is not genuine. Non original components are not guaranteed to be compatible with your camcorder. Make sure the battery comes from an authorized Sony dealer.

    Please check the following items:

    • The temperature of your camcorder is extremely high. Turn off your camcorder and
leave it for a while in a cool place.
    • The temperature of your camcorder is extremely low. Leave your camcorder with the
power of your camcorder on. Turn off your camcorder and take it to a warm place.
    • Leave the camcorder there for a while, then turn on your camcorder.
    • When using the camcorder in a cold environment, condensation may occur when the camcorder is then moved to a warmer environment, preventing the camcorder from operating normally. If you have used your camcorder outside, wait a few hours in room t° until the condensation has gone.
    • Fully recharge your battery pack.

On some models it is possible to set whether the camera is turned on by opening the LCD. If the camera is not turned by opening the LCD it can be turned on by pressing the Power-button.

If the LED is blinking when charging the battery pack, check the following items:
Check if the battery is correctly inserted in the charger/camcorder.
The contacts on the battery or the charger/camcorder are probably dirty and this prevents the battery from charging. Clean the terminals with a dry microfiber cloth if necessary.
If the temperature of the battery is very high or very low charging may not possible. Wait until the battery has normalised.

If the problem persists, disconnect the AC Adaptor from the wall outlet and contact your Sony dealer. The battery pack may be damaged.

If the LED is turned off, check the following items:
Check if the battery is correctly inserted in the charger/camcorder. If the battery is charged inside the camera make sure to close the LCD screen.
The plug of the AC Adaptor has been disconnected from the wall outlet (wall socket).
The metal contacts on the battery or the charger/camcorder are probably dirty and this prevents the battery from charging. Clean the terminals with a dry microfiber cloth if necessary.

Usually the contacts on the battery are well protected against dust and dirt. You can use a small paper (e.g. business card) to wipe between the small strips of the battery contacts.

If the LED of the charger or the camcorder is turned on and is not blinking, this suggests that your battery or camcorder is charging normally.
Let the camcorder charge completely, until the LED turns off. This may take a few hours.
When the battery is fully charged, remove the charger and turn the camcorder on.

    Please note:
When charging this camcorder by USB connection from AC-UD20, you cannot use both USB connectors at the same time. If you use both of them and charging stops, disconnect the other USB cable, and reinsert the power plug.

If the problem persists, disconnect the AC Adaptor from the wall outlet and contact your Sony dealer. The battery pack may be damaged. If charging does not operate even with another battery, the charger/camcorder may be defective and you should contact the Sony service.
