How to run PlayMemories Home Settings Initialisation Tool (Windows)

    This article pertains to models that are compatible with PlayMemories Home. For details, refer to the manual and other documentation for your device.

    This section explains how to use the PlayMemories Home Settings Initialisation Tool on a Windows PC. Please read the operating instructions below.

    Using PlayMemories Home Settings Initialisation Tool, you can clear various setting values that are saved automatically when you use PlayMemories Home, and return the program to the default settings that were in effect immediately after installation.

    IMPORTANT:

    • Data stored on your computer will not be deleted by PlayMemories Home Settings Initialisation Tool.
    • Your computer will be restored to the condition it was in immediately after installing the application, so the folder will be deregistered if a folder of your choice been registered.  
    • If a large volume of data is stored in the registered folder, it may take some time to re-register.
    • The PlayMemories Home Settings Initialisation Tool will not run on a Mac PC.
    1. Close PlayMemories Home.
    2. Select Start - All Programs - PlayMemories Home - PlayMemories Home Settings Initialisation Tool.
      • Windows 10
        1. On the computer desktop, click the Start button.
        2. In the Start menu, click the All apps.
        3. Click the PlayMemories Home.
        4. Click to select PlayMemories Home Settings Initialisation Tool.
        NOTE:
        • If you cannot find PlayMemories Home Settings Initialisation Tool, search for it using the Search box.
        • If Action Cam Creator has been installed, press the Start button to select All apps - Action Cam Movie Creator and PlayMemories Home - PlayMemories Home Settings Initialisation Tool.
      • Windows 8 or Windows 8.1
        • Run from the Start screen.
        • button on the Start screen to display the Apps bar. In Windows 8 right-click somewhere without tiles on the Start screen, and then select All apps from the app bar displayed.
        • When All apps is displayed, PlayMemories Home Settings Initialisation Tool displays in the PlayMemories Home location.

      NOTE: If you cannot find PlayMemories Home Settings Initialisation Tool, search for it using the Search charm.

      • Windows 7
        • On the computer desktop, click the Start button.
        • In the Start menu, point to Programs or All Programs.
        • Point to PlayMemories Home.
        • Click to select PlayMemories Home Settings Initialisation Tool.

      NOTE: If Action Cam Creator has been installed, press the Start button to select All Programs- Action Cam Movie Creator and PlayMemories Home - PlayMemories Home Settings Initialisation Tool.

    3. PlayMemories Home Settings Initialisation Tool will run. Place a check mark in Restore the program to its default settings, and then click Start.

    4. Are you sure you want to restore the program to its default settings? will display. Click Yes.
    5. After a while, Process completed. will display. Click OK.
    6. Follow the onscreen instructions to set up PlayMemories Home.

      When you launch PlayMemories Home, the PlayMemories Home Initial Settings window will be displayed.

      • Use the standard settings (Recommended)
        If you select Use the standard settings (Recommended), the default image browsing folder will be Pictures. If you want to select a folder other than Pictures or add another folder, select Use custom settings.

      • Use custom settings
        If you have run the PlayMemories Home Setting Initialisation Tool due to unstable performance or if PlayMemories Home is failing to launch, select Use custom settings and choose initial settings without registering a folder.

    7. Start PlayMemories Home.
    8. Add folders will be displayed. Add a new folder if needed and click Next.

      NOTE: In the default settings, the folders My Pictures and My Videos are selected. If you have other picture folders, you can manage them in PlayMemories Home by adding them: Adding / Removing folders
    9. PlayMemories Online (Free) is a cloud-based photo and video service from Sony will be displayed. Click Do not use PlayMemories Online.

      NOTE: You can also register and use PlayMemories Online at a later date. Click PlayMemories Online in PlayMemories Home, and then click Sign in.
    10. PlayMemories Home will start once Optimise video settings is completed.

    NOTE:

    • You can still add or delete a folder for image browsing in PlayMemories Home after Use the standard or Use custom settings have been applied.
    • If PlayMemories Home does not run properly after a folder has been added, it is possible that the folder contains images that are problematic in some way (damaged or incompatible files, etc.).
