Using your headphones for the first time

The first time you turn on the headphones, they will automatically enter pairing mode. After that, there are three ways to pair your WH-1000XM6.

Google Fast Pair
Bluetooth Fast Pair​

In one tap, the speaker enables quick, effortless Bluetooth pairing with your Android and iOS devices. 

Swift Pair
Swift Pair

Pop-up pairing guidance appears on nearby Windows 11 or Windows 10 devices when Pairing mode is selected.

Manual Pairing
Manual Pairing

The first time you turn on the headphones, they will automatically enter pairing mode. Next time you want to pair, press and hold the power button for 5 seconds to enter pairing mode manually.

Download the app to adjust settings, including Multipoint Connection, Ambient Sound mode, and more. Lots of the settings we mention on this page can be tailored to your preferences using Sony | Sound Connect app.
To have access to all the functions available to you within the app, you will be required to sign in or create an account.

Multipoint Connection

Connect your headphones to two Bluetooth devices simultaneously, so you can wait for an incoming call on one device while listening to music on the other.

Noise Cancelling

Powered by advanced processors and an adaptive microphone system, noise cancelling is optimised in real time - so your world stays undisturbed, and your sound stays pure.

Auto Ambient Sound

Stay connected to your surroundings with Auto Ambient Sound mode, which adjusts the level of transparency based on the amount of noise around you.

How to get started with Auto Ambient Sound mode

In the Sony | Sound Connect app, go to “Sound” and select the right arrow next to “Ambient Sound Control”.

Switch on Ambient Sound if it isn’t already on, then activate “Auto Ambient Sound”. You can choose different noise detection sensitivity.

Adaptive Sound Control 

Adaptive Sound Control is a smart function that detects what is happening around you and adjusts Noise Cancelling and Ambient Sound settings for the ideal listening experience.

How to start and adjust Adaptive Sound Control​

Just open the Sony | Sound Connect app and switch it on to use its default detection mode.

If you want to customize it even further, you can adjust Noise Cancelling or External Sound Capture preference through the app.

Optimise the switching for you

This feature learns how you use the headphones while using Adaptive Sound Control and switches settings at an optimal time.

Just enable this setting and follow the on-screen prompt to sign into your Sound Connect app account.

360 Reality Audio Upmix

By using Sony’s 360 Spatial Sound technology, 360 Reality Audio Upmix for Cinema can make stereo audio sound like spatial audio through your headphones, transforming the playback into a theatre-like experience with deep immersion. 

How to set up 360 Reality Audio Upmix

In the Sony | Sound Connect app, go to “Sound” and select “Listening mode”. You can then switch to “Cinema” mode to enjoy video content with immersive sound like at a movie theatre.

360 Spatial Sound Personalizer

With the Sony | 360 Spatial Sound Personalizer app, you’ll enjoy a sound experience that’s optimised for you. The app captures and analyses your ear shape, allowing your WH-1000XM6 to create your own spatial sound field when paired with selected BRAVIA TVs.

Background Music Effect

Background Music Effect makes content sound as if background music is playing in the actual space around them, instead of just from the headphones.

The sound is not localised inside your head like normal playback, so it’s good for listening while doing other tasks or when you want to relax

Quick Access

Quick Access to your favourite music 

With Quick Access, you can configure your  WH-1000XM6  to resume Spotify music playback or Endel personalised soundscapes with two or three taps – no need to touch your smartphone.

In the "System" menu, find the "Quick Access" setting. Select the cog icon to adjust what the Quick Access button does. E.g. Press the button three times to resume Spotify.

Auto Play
Seamless music and audio notifications

Auto Play delivers music and audio notifications just when you need them. You can set music to play at your preferred timings, such as when you're putting your headphones on or going for a run. 

The Auto Play feature is now accessed via the Sound Connect app. Simply link with Spotify, Endel, or other music apps to get your favourite music and relaxing soundscapes.

Head Gesture
Control headphones with head gestures

With WH-1000XM6, you can control certain operations using natural head gestures, such as receiving or declining calls, or operating Auto Play, by nodding or shaking your head.

Go to the "System" menu of the Sony | Sound Connect app to calibrate this feature upon first use.

Voice Control
Control with your voice

You can control the WH-1000XM6 with your voice - just say “Hey Headphones” followed by one of the voice commands to listen to music, connect with friends, or get notifications.

Firmware update
Latest firmware update

When using the Sony | Sound Connect app, it will let you know when there is a new update to download.

Make sure you have the latest firmware updated on your headphones so any bug fixes and improvements will be applied.
