Photography with the Xperia 1 VI

Dominika Koszowska

With successive Xperia models offering more and more photography and filmmaking options, the new features of the Xperia 1 VI have been welcomed by traditional camera users and content creators alike.

Alongside ultra-wide 16mm and wide 24mm lenses, the new model sports an impressive 85-170mm optical zoom, perfect for portraits when used with the improved computational AI bokeh. It also features telephoto macro shooting at 120mm, allowing you to shoot extremely detailed close-up shots without overcrowding your subject.

The camera app has also seen a big upgrade, combining all the previous camera setting apps into one and allowing the user to select quickly between photo, video, bokeh and pro modes with a simple swipe.

Dominika Koszowska is an award-winning photographer and long time Xperia user. One feature she particularly liked was the telephoto macro option.

I am very pleased that such a feature has been introduced. I had previously been using additional clip-on lenses for my Xperia, but now I don't have to and the quality of the macro images is amazing. I also found the bokeh to be very smooth and even.”

For portraits, Dominika took full advantage of the new 85-170mm optical zoom. The 85 mm focal length is ideal for professional portraits, capturing faces without distortion. Combined with the advanced Xperia bokeh function and AI, it allows you to take beautiful portraits with faithful skin tones.

The updated zoom lens is incredible for portraits! The autofocus is quick and accurate and the detail in the finished images is amazing, even in low light.”

Having such a wide optical zoom range offers so much flexibility, especially for portraits - and when you factor in the telephoto macro, it puts the Xperia 1 VI way ahead of the game as an imaging tool.

I also really like the redesigned camera app too, as I like to shoot in manual mode, especially for low-light. I found it particularly easy to set my exposure perfectly, and shooting in RAW gives me so much potential for creative edits in post-production. This really is a perfect smartphone for any creator, whether you shoot stills, video or hybrid. It's like having a very small Alpha in your pocket."
