For this project, I travelled to Fuerteventura, an island known for its diverse and cinematic landscapes — from vast dunes and volcanic textures to dramatic coastlines. The goal was to showcase how the new 'camera name' performs in every scenario: from bright, high-contrast daylight to low-light scenes, across both photo and video. Together with my videographer, I set out to create a visual story that highlights the versatility and reliability of this camera while keeping a cinematic and natural aesthetic — a balance between storytelling and technical excellence.
What immediately stood out to me about the Alpha 7 V is its incredible dynamic range. As a travel photographer and filmmaker, I often work in environments with constantly changing light — from harsh sunlight to deep shadows. Being able to shoot directly into the light while retaining detail and depth gives me endless creative freedom. Another standout feature is the ability to load LUTs directly in-camera. This is a real game changer for my workflow, I can shoot in S-Log and preview the final look on-screen without needing an external monitor, which keeps my setup lighter and faster. Lastly, the 4K 120p mode truly elevates motion. Capturing waves crashing on rocks or sand particles drifting in the dunes feels cinematic and immersive, it transforms simple moments into something powerful.
The features of the Alpha 7 V give creators true freedom to tell stories without technical barriers. With its seamless transition between video and high-resolution photo, I can capture a cinematic moment and immediately switch to a 33MP still image, ensuring I never miss a detail. For travel photographers and hybrid creators, this means you can spontaneously capture the world as it unfolds. Whether I’m filming waves crashing on rocks or stopping to photograph intricate textures in the sand, the workflow is fast and effortless. Ultimately, the Alpha 7 V allows me to focus on storytelling and emotion, turning every trip into a cohesive visual journey rather than separate photo and video projects.
Compared to my current Sony Alpha IV, the Alpha 7 V feels like its stronger, more intuitive. It builds on everything I love about the 7 IV while adding features I had been missing. The 4-axis multi-angle monitor is a game changer, giving me much more freedom when shooting in diverse locations. whether low to the ground, over obstacles, or while moving. Colour reproduction has also improved noticeably. Skin tones and natural hues now feel more lifelike straight out of camera, reducing post-production work and letting me focus on storytelling. The integration of photo and video workflows feels seamless; I no longer need to compromise between formats. Overall, the Alpha 7 V makes shooting feel effortless, inspiring me to capture more moments and approach every project with a sense of creative freedom and confidence.
The Alpha 7 V delivers the performance professionals need, even in demanding conditions. Its AI autofocus and Auto Framing work seamlessly, whether I’m filming fast-moving subjects, solo shooting, or capturing unpredictable natural scenes. The combination of 10-bit 4:2:2 recording, S-log, and high dynamic range ensures cinematic colour and depth straight out of camera, reducing post-production time while maintaining professional quality. High ISO performance and low-light capabilities mean indoor, or night shooting no longer limits creativity, every frame stays clean and detailed. Operability is intuitive, letting creators focus on storytelling and emotion rather than menus or settings. For professionals, this camera allows traveling lighter, shooting faster, and capturing moments with confidence, ultimately helping creators elevate their content and push boundaries, no matter the location or scenario.
For this project, I relied on a combination of Sony lenses that cover everything I need while traveling. The FE 16-25mm f/2.8 G is my choice for wide landscapes and night photography, capturing the vastness and atmosphere of Fuerteventura’s dunes and skies. The FE 24-70mm f/2.8 GM II is my everyday workhorse, versatile for storytelling shots, mid-range compositions, and spontaneous moments. For compression and detail, especially in landscapes, mountains, or wildlife, the FE 70-200mm f/2.8 GM OSS II delivers stunning results with beautiful depth and separation. On the audio side, I used the Sony ECM-M1 shotgun microphone, which is lightweight, reliable, and captures all the subtle environmental sounds that make a scene feel alive. Together, this setup is perfectly balanced for travel and hybrid shooting, allowing me to move quickly while maintaining consistent colour, sharpness, and cinematic quality across all lenses and footage.
If I could give one piece of advice it would be this: experiment freely and focus on the story, not the technical setup. A camera like the Alpha 7 V makes it effortless to move between photo and video, letting you capture unique moments exactly as you see and feel them. Whether you’re travelling, exploring nature, or documenting everyday life, this camera empowers you to stay present and tell your story without compromise. I’m grateful for the Sony community and for all the creators who inspire me. Keep exploring, stay curious, and find beauty in every frame.
