How to transfer music, pictures and video from your mobile device on your TV with Wi-Fi Direct

Enjoy music, videos and pictures from your laptop, mobile or tablet on your TV screen without using an internet connection or a home network connection.

Wi-Fi direct creates a direct link between your TV and your mobile devices or computer to share media files on the big screen.

What do I need?

  • A BRAVIA TV with Wi-Fi direct.
  • A laptop, smartphone or Android tablet
  • The latest firmware installed on all the above

The steps involved

  1. Prepare Wi-Fi Direct on your BRAVIA
  2. Connect your device to your TV:
    1. computer or laptop
    2. Android phone or tablet
    3. iPhone

Step-by-step

Prepare Wi-Fi Direct on your BRAVIA

  1. First, choose your menu type and select Wi-Fi Direct Mode:
    1. Menu type 1 (below): Press HOME (Menu) on your remote control > Applications > Wi-Fi Direct Mode



    2. Menu type 2 (below): On the TV menu, navigate to Settings > Network and confirm that [Built-in Wi-Fi] and [Wi-Fi Direct] are set to On. Then select Wi-Fi Direct Settings



    3. Menu type 3 (below): On the TV menu, navigate to System Settings > Wi-Fi Setup and confirm that [Built-in Wi-Fi] and [Wi-Fi Direct] are set to On. Then select Wi-Fi Direct Settings



  2. Launch Wi-Fi direct mode:
    1. Press Options on your remote control
    2. Select Manual
    3. Select Other methods
    4. You will now see the SSID and WPA key - keep these to hand as you'll need to enter these on your mobile device

Connect your computer to your BRAVIA

  1. Connect to the BRAVIA network:
    1. On the taskbar, click the Network icon
    2. Click on the network name that matches the SSID displayed on your BRAVIA and click Connect
    3. Enter the network security key (WPA key) shown on your BRAVIA TV and click OK

  2. Send content from your device to your BRAVIA:

    Using Windows Media Player
    1. Open Windows Media Player
    2. Click the Stream tab and check that [Automatically allow devices to play my media...] is enabled
    3. Select the content you want to play. Right click and select [Play to] -> [BRAVIA]
    4. Press Play when the player appears. The content will now play on your BRAVIA

    Using Windows Explorer
    1. Open Windows Explorer
    2. Open the folder that contains the movies, pictures or music you want to share. Select the file or folder - or hold control and select multiple files for a slideshow - you want to share and select [Play to] -> [BRAVIA]
    3. Press Play when the player appears. The content will now play on your BRAVIA

Connect your Android phone or tablet to your BRAVIA

  1. Connect to the BRAVIA network:
    1. From the menu, choose Settings
    2. Select Wi-Fi and select the network name shown on your BRAVIA TV

  2. Share content:
    1. Select the picture, track or movie you want to share
    2. Press the share icon at the top of the screen
    3. Select your BRAVIA TV from the list shown. If you're using a phone, press Play when prompted. The content will now transfer to your TV and will appear once the process is complete

For mobile phones, applications are available to share content with Wi-Fi Direct TVs such as iMediaShare software or DiXiM software

Connect your iPhone to your BRAVIA

  1. Connect to the BRAVIA network:
    1. Select Settings on your home screen
    2. Turn the Wi-Fi on and select the network name shown on your BRAVIA TV
    3. When the iPhone prompts you for a WPA Password, enter the security key (WPA key) displayed on your BRAVIA TV and press Join. Once you see a tick next to the network name, you're connected.

  2. You can now share content with your TV using one of the following applications which you can download from the app store:
    1. iMediaShare software
    2. DiXiM software
