Sony and TVN push live production boundaries with new OB truck

Equipped with the Sony MLS-X1 Switcher, the TVN-Ü8 is the most powerful OB van currently on the market.

Weybridge, 12th September: TVN LIVE PRODUCTION, one of Europe's leading providers of outside broadcasts and demanding live TV events worldwide for public and private TV stations, has once again partnered with Sony for the latest addition to its Outside Broadcast (OB) fleet. The new Ü8 truck will be key to TVN’s ongoing ambition to always to push live production boundaries further.

The Ü8 is the result of decades of expertise in professional live broadcasting and is designed for demanding, large-scale broadcasting events in which several independent, parallel signals are processed and delivered to customers worldwide.

Launched in Summer 2024, the Ü8 truck features four Sony MLS-X1 switchers, part of the Sony Networked Live ecosystem: With the MLS-X1, multiple smaller processing units can be rapidly configured to cater to any production needs, eliminating the need for a monolithic switcher chassis.

This means each of the 2 control rooms in the truck can be used to work entirely independently from each other, on different productions, simultaneously. This setup enables TVN to handle two separate productions in just one OB Van.

TVN CTO Christoph Moll adds: „We have the option of the independent use of each of the switchers, but for really large UHD productions requiring up to 200 UHD inputs, we can combine all four units on board the TVN-OB8 to one large mixer. This gives us maximum flexibility.“

TVN premiered its newest addition to their fleet during the European Football Championship this year in June and July. The Ü8 worked in tandem with the Ü6 and was used to produce the broadcast of the closing ceremony at the finale in Berlin.

As interest for this new truck is high, TVN will be showcasing the Ü8 at IBC 2024 in Amsterdam as an Outside Exhibitor at Booth 0.A17 alongside their construction partners Akkermans, ProjectBuilders und D&MS.
