Switching between TV channels seems slow or unresponsive

This article addresses what to do if you experience a slowdown or delay when switching channels when using the Electronic Programme Guide (EPG) or other features on Sony's Android or Google TV.

Changing channels became slower after my TV received an update

    Spinning circle animation change

After a recent update on some Sony Android TVs, a spinning circle animation was introduced to visualise the process of changing channels. The animation doesn't take longer than before and shouldn't last longer than a couple of seconds.

Changing channels or interacting with the TV feels slow

    Remote control battery change

If your remote control batteries are nearly depleted, the response between your remote and TV may slow down. Insert new batteries and see if that improves the situation.

    Power Cycle

If your TV is suddenly slowing down, it could be a minor glitch that can be resolved by performing a power cycle or restart.

    1. Unplug your TV from the socket
    2. Wait 30 seconds
    3. Reinsert the power plug

Alternatively, press and hold the power button on your TV remote to perform a quick restart (note that this only applies to recent Android and Google TV models).

TV memory - clear cache or remove apps (Android or Google TV)

If you install many apps, uninstalling a few you don't use will clear up TV memory and free processing power.

In this article, you can read about how to uninstall or troubleshoot an app

    Factory data reset

A factory data reset returns your TV to initial setup conditions. It's a good way to firmly reset the TV and clear out all unnecessary data:

    • On the remote control, press the quick settings button(Quick Settings button), HOME button or ACTION MENU button, depending on your TV/remote control.
    • Select the settings cogor arrow.
    • The following steps will vary depending on your TV menu options:
      • Select System → About → Reset → Factory data reset → Erase everything → Yes.
      • Select Device Preferences → Reset → Factory data reset → Erase everything → Yes.
      • Select Storage & reset → Factory data reset → Erase everything → Yes.

The factory reset may take a few minutes. Wait until the process is complete, and the TV will start the initial setup.
