Android™ 8.0 Oreo™ automatic update resumed – 22nd May 2019

We’re pleased to announce that the automatic update to Android™ 8.0 Oreo™ has been resumed and will be rolling out to eligible TVs over the coming weeks.

For users that have already downloaded firmware v6.5830 (Android 8.0 Oreo), this firmware will bring further improvements while resolving the issues detailed in our previous announcement:

    • Improves the user experience of the channel list presets
    • Resolves sound issues—via the ARC port connected to your Sound Bar, A/V Receiver or Home Theater System—when switching on the TV from standby
    • Resolves sound issues playing some specific file formats using the internal video player app
    • Restores the Program Guide’s Search by title function

For customers that will be upgrading to Oreo for the first time, this firmware will bring all of the benefits highlighted above, plus the improvements from the previous, original Oreo package.

Some enhancements include the following highlights:

    • A new Home Screen menu
    • Google Tours (tutorial)
    • Software update notifications in the Home Screen menu
    • New keyboard layout and functionality
    • A redesigned Content Bar or TV Menu Bar
    • Accessibility Shortcut (On/Off switch)
    • Improved user experience for the Video, Music and Photo apps
    • Expansion to the supported formats for USB or home networks*

NOTE: For the full list of features and benefits, please go to your specific TV product page.

The recommended way to receive this update is by ensuring that the Automatic software download setting on your TV is turned ON. Your TV should then receive the update automatically, in the coming weeks.

Alternatively, you can download the firmware from your TV model’s product page on the European support site, and update your TV using a USB flash memory device.

Sony always takes customer feedback into consideration, striving for innovation and overall product quality.

We thank you for your patience and hope you will enjoy Android™ 8.0 Oreo™.

    Android™ 8.0 Oreo™ automatic update temporarily suspended – 13th February 2019

When releasing firmware updates, Sony always keeps a close eye on the roll-out to ensure our customers enjoy a smooth and satisfying experience.

We identified that our latest Android 8.0 Oreo update can occasionally cause a no sound symptom from certain Sound Bars, A/V Receivers or Home Theater Systems if the TV has been on standby for a long period of time. Unfortunately, due to this potential connectivity issue which we perceive as an inconvenience for some of our customers, we’ve decided to postpone the Android 8.0 Oreo automatic firmware update (v6.5830).

For customers that have downloaded the update and are currently unable to hear sound—via your home audio device—please visit the following article for our recommended workarounds.

However, for customers that do not own a Sound Bar, A/V Receiver or Home Theater System and would like to experience the new features and functionalities on offer, the update is still available to download manually on the support site.

Note: If you are using one of the home audio devices mentioned above, we strongly recommend that you wait for the next update, which will rectify this potential issue.

Our engineers are diligently investigating the root cause at this moment, and a new firmware will be released in the near future to resolve this anomaly. To stay informed, please regularly visit or bookmark this page.

We thank you for your understanding and apologise for any inconvenience caused.
