Preparation

Check the firmware version

If the version is displayed as 1.07 or lower, we strongly recommend that you update the firmware.
If you're not sure, it's easy to check which version of the firmware you currently have:

  1. Turn on the speaker.
  2. Launch the Sony | Music Center application.
  3. Connect your speaker to the Sony | Music Center application.
  4. Select Settings.
  5. Select System.
  6. Confirm the firmware version (numbers in red box).
    The firmware version is shown in [ LSPX-S2 Version] in the center of the screen.

Important notice

Software updates become possible when the speaker is in the following states.

  • The speaker is connected to the AC outlet with the supplied USB AC adaptor.
    Note: Software updates cannot be performed when using the built-in rechargeable battery.
  • The speaker is connected to the internet via Wi-Fi.
  • If you are using multiple Speaker ADD, wireless stereo, or wireless multi-room functions using multiple units, Please cancel these functions and update them one by one.

Before you upgrade

  • Once updated, the firmware cannot be reverted to an earlier version.
  • The update process will take approximately 15 minutes to complete.

Download & Install

Step 1: Install the update

  1. Connect to a power supply outlet.
    Note: The software update cannot be performed when using battery power only. Use the USB AC adapter and supplied USB cable to connect the unit's DC IN 5V port to a power outlet.
  2. Press the (On/Standby) button, then turn the power on.
  3. Connect to the internet (network).
  4. Launch the Sony | Music Center application.
  5. Connect your speaker to the Sony | Music Center application.
  6. The following screen will be shown when the connection has been established.
    Information is displayed at the bottom of the screen.
  7. If an update is applicable, Update the software of the speaker. will be displayed and you can press More Info.
  8. Press OK to start the update.
    The [LATER] button and the [OK] button appear at the bottom of the screen. The [OK] button is on the right.
  9. Once the download starts, it will automatically move to the next screen after the download is completed.
  10. Once the transfer starts, it will automatically move to the next screen after the transfer has been completed.
    Note: Do not turn off your speakers while downloading updates, transferring data, or updating, otherwise, the speakers may become unusable. When the software update is completed, press OK.
    The [OK] button appears at the bottom of the screen.
  11. If the screen is not displayed, check whether the version has been upgraded in the following step.
  12. The speaker automatically turns off when the software update ends.

Step 2: Check the update was successful

After the update, confirm that the new version has been installed successfully by following the steps in the Check the firmware version section.
Note: If the firmware version shown is 1.09, the upgrade was successful.

Questions & Answers

An update error message appears.

  1. Press OK.
  2. Restart (turn the power off then on) the speaker.
  3. After that, restart Sony | Music Center and update again.

Even though the update failed during the process, check the firmware version. If the Version is shown as 1.09, the firmware update was successful. If not, try the firmware update again. You can check the version from the setting in the Sony | Music Center application. To find out how to check the version, go to Check the firmware version on this page.

If the (on/standby) indicator slowly flashes in orange as explained in the following:

The automatic software update feature (Auto Update) of the speaker is enabled by the Sony | Music Center. The update is performed when you are not using the speaker, such as at midnight or when the speaker is in BLUETOOTH/Network Standby mode. The (on/standby) indicator slowly flashes in orange while the speaker updates.
Note: You can do the Time Zone settings from Sony | Music Center.

If the indicators light/flash as explained in the following:

  • The network indicator lights up white for 1 second
  • The BLUETOOTH indicator lights up white for 1 second
  • The (on/standby) indicator quickly flashes in orange

The software update has failed.
Turn off the speaker, then turn it on again. The update will resume. If the situation does not improve after switching the speaker off and on, consult your nearest Sony dealer.
