I keep losing the Wi-Fi connection on my Xperia smartphone

    The following article offers some possible tips and tricks to solve Wi-Fi issues on your smartphone. 

    1. Restart your smartphone and Wi-Fi

    It's a simple solution, but it should be the first thing you try. Restart your phone and disable and re-enable your Wi-Fi. 

    You can enable and disable your Wi-Fi via the notification/status bar or retrieve them by going to your Network & internet settings menu. 

    2. Check the Wi-Fi signal strength - 2.4 versus 5 GHz Wi-Fi 

    Check the Wi-Fi signal strength (Wi-Fi icon) in the status bar. You might be out of range or experience a sudden drop in signal strength due to the environment (thick concrete walls or steel structures). 

    Most routers now offer the option to switch between a 2.4 and 5 GHz signal. Although the 5 GHz signal provides the fastest speed, switching to the 2.4 GHz network offers increased range at the cost of speed. 

    3. Forget the Wi-Fi network and reconnect

    1. Go into the Wi-Fi settings of your smartphone and press the settings cogwheel of the Wi-Fi network that's causing issues.
    2. If you are not connected, locate the network under Saved networks.
    3. Tap on the Wi-Fi network you want to disable, and select forget. This will remove the Wi-Fi network data from your phone. 
    4. Disable and enable Wi-Fi on your smartphone to search the network and add it again. 

     4. Reset the router or modem

    If other devices besides your smartphone are having connection problems with the Wi-Fi network, it's possible that the router has an issue in rare instances.

    You can perform a simple router reset by unplugging it, leaving it unplugged for one minute, and plugging it back in. 

    This procedure will reset and restart the router, potentially solving the issue. Also, note that on rare occasions, your network provider might be experiencing network disturbances, so check your internet provider's website if other devices besides your phone are affected. 

    5. Perform a factory data reset

    If you're experiencing recurring issues and all the previous solutions did not improve the situation, you might consider a factory data reset. It's the best solution if your phone stops functioning correctly, but note that it will delete all personal content saved on your device's internal memory. Make sure to back up the data that you want to keep.
