Thank you for your continued interest in Sony products.

Sony is always concerned about quality and customer satisfaction and therefore is offering a firmware update for Interchangeable Lens Digital Camera SLT-A37. Please refer to the "Download and Installation" section of this page on how to download and install the firmware update.

Confirm the firmware version of your camera

Follow the instructions below to check the firmware version of your camera.
If the firmware version is Ver.1.04 or later, the update is not required.

  1. Select Menu --> Setup --> Version on the camera.
  2. The firmware version is displayed as illustrated below.

Applicable Models

This firmware update only applies to SLT-A37 that currently has a firmware version 1.03 or lower

Improvements

This utility updates the SLT-A37 firmware to version 1.04, and provides the following benefits:


support for the following automatic compensation compliant lenses: SAL100M28, SAL50M28, SAL85F28, SAL18200, SAL20F28, SAL28F28

System Requirements

Preparing for firmware update

  • Computer hardware
    • Hard disk space: 200MB or more
    • RAM: 512MB or more
      Note: Please close all other application software before updating the firmware.
  • Power source for the camera
    • Fully charged rechargeable battery pack NP-FW50
      or
      AC adapter AC-PW20 (sold separately)

      Note: The update can be performed only when the remaining battery level is (three marks) or more. We recommend that you use a fully charged battery or the AC adapter AC-PW20AM (sold separately).
  • USB cable supplied with the camera

    Note: Update functionality is not guaranteed with any other USB cable.

Install

Important notes:

  • When performing the firmware update, please use a fully charged rechargeable battery pack NP-FM50H or the AC adapter AC-PW20AM (sold separately).
  • Do not remove the battery or AC adapter during the update; otherwise, the camera may become inoperable due to the sudden power shutdown.
  • Remove the memory card from the camera beforehand.
  • Do not cover Eyepiece sensors (A.) during the update; otherwise, the LCD monitor may switch to the Viewfinder. If you can not see anything on the LCD monitor, please press the [FINDER / LCD button] (B.).

Step 1: Download the firmware updater

  1. Make sure that you are logged on as a user with administrative rights.
  2. At the bottom of the page, read the disclaimer and agree to the terms and conditions by clicking on the checkbox. Then, click on the Download button.
  3. The download of the [Update_SLTA57V104.dmg] file will start.
  4. Save the file to the desktop of your computer (recommended).

Step 2: Start up the Firmware Updater

    Close all currently running programs on your computer.

  1. Double-click the [Update_SLTA57V104.dmg] file you downloaded to start up the Firmware Updater.
  2. Do not connect the camera yet at this point
  3. [Update_SLTA57V104]) is expanded.
  4. Double-click the icon FirmwareUpdater
  5. To load a kernel extension, the message prompts you to allow the application to make changes. Type the password for the administrative account.


    1. The Firmware Updater MAC appears.


  6. Close all currently running programs on your computer.
  7. According to the instruction on the Firmware Updater MAC, select Menu --> Setup --> USB Connection on the camera, and check if Mass Storage is selected.
    If another mode than Mass Storage is selected, please select Mass Storage.



  8. If it has not been done already, remove the memory card from the camera.
  9. Connect the camera to the computer with the supplied USB cable.
    Note: USB Mode appears on the LCD monitor of the camera.
  10. Click Next on the Firmware Updater MAC. Figure 4 appears on the Firmware Updater MAC, and Figure 5 appears on the LCD screen of the camera.
    • When clicking Next, do not cover Eyepiece sensors (A. on Figure 6) during the update; otherwise, the LCD monitor may switch to the Viewfinder. If you can not see anything on the LCD monitor, please press the [FINDER / LCD button] (B. on Figure 6).
    • If Figure 2 does not appears on the LCD screen of the camera, please disconnect the USB cable from the camera, and proceed to the "Recovery procedure" detailed at the bottom of the page.

    Note: From now on, never turn off the camera until the firmware update is completed.
    If the computer cannot find the camera, the message " Could not find the camera for this update." appears on the computer display. Try the following if this happens.- Disconnect the USB cable and connect it again.- If the computer has multiple USB terminals, try with the other terminals.
    - Disconnect the USB cable and connect it again.
    - If the computer has multiple USB terminals, try with the other terminals.
    Sometimes when the camera is connected to the computer with the USB cable, the message to encourage rebooting the computer may appear on the computer display. In this case, remove the battery pack or AC adaptor from the camera, reboot the computer, and follow the procedures from "2. Start up Firmware Updater".

  11. After confirming the screens on Figures 4 and 5, click Next. The current version and the version after the update appear on the lower left part of the screen. (Figure 7)
  12. After confirming Current Version is Ver.1.01 or Ver.1.02 or Ver.1.03, click Next.

  13. Press the center of the [Multi-selector] to execute the reset of the camera.


    Note: The screen turns off when the center of the [Multi-selector] is pressed. Please proceed to the next step.
  14. Click Next on the Firmware Updater MAC (Figure 11).

  15. After resetting, reconnection of the camera is verified, and the screen on Figure 12 appears.Click Run
    to start the update. The progress bar appears while updating (approximately 5 minutes).
    Note:Never turn off the camera nor disconnect the USB cable while updating.

  16. When the update is completed, the screen on Figure 13 appears. Click Finish and disconnect the USB cable.

  17. Note: Turn off the camera, remove the battery pack or the AC adapter, reinsert the battery or reconnect the AC adapter and turn on the camera.

Step 3: Confirm the firmware version of your camera is Ver.1.04.

  1. Select Menu --> Setup --> Version on the camera.
  2. The firmware version is displayed as illustrated below. (Figure 14)
