Confirm the firmware version of your camera
Follow the instructions below to check the firmware version of your camera.
If the firmware version is Ver.1.03 or later, the update is not required.
- Select Menu --> Setup --> Version on the camera.
- The firmware version is displayed as illustrated below.

Operating Systems
The latest version of the firmware update is compatible with most commonly used versions of Microsoft Windows:
- Windows® Vista* SP2
- Windows® 7 SP1
- Windows® 8
Notes:
* Starter edition is not supported.
Computer hardware
The latest version of the firmware update is compatible with the following hardware:
- Hard disk space: 200MB or more
- RAM: 512MB or more
Note: Please close all other application software before updating the firmware. - Power source for the camera
- Fully charged rechargeable battery pack NP-FW50
or
AC adapter AC-PW20 (sold separately)
Note: The update can be performed only when the remaining battery level is(three marks) or more. We recommend that you use a fully charged battery or the AC adapter AC-PW20 (sold separately).
- Fully charged rechargeable battery pack NP-FW50
- USB cable supplied with the camera
Note: Update functionality is not guaranteed with any other USB cable.

Important notes:
- When performing the firmware upgrade, please use a fully charged rechargeable battery pack NP-FW50 or the AC adapter AC-PW20 (sold separately).
- Do not remove the battery or AC adapter during the update; otherwise, the camera may become inoperable due to the sudden power shutdown.
- Remove the memory card from the camera beforehand.
- When using an A-mount lens with the LA-EA2 Mount Adaptor (sold separately) and setting to use the [AF Micro Adj.] function, the registered value is reset.
- Make sure that you are logged on as a user with administrative rights.
- After reading the disclaimer, click the [Download] button below.
- The download of the [Update_NEX7V103.exe] (62.2 MB (65 295 408 bytes)) file will start.
- Save the file to the desktop of your computer (recommended).
Install
Under the initial settings of Internet Explorer, the update file will be saved in the [Downloads] folder. Click the [Desktop] tile from the Start screen and find the downloaded file in the [Downloads] folder by using Explorer.
Upgrade the firmware of your camera
- Close all currently running programs on your computer.
- Double-click the [Update_NEX7V103.exe] file you downloaded to start up the Firmware Updater.
The Firmware Updater window appears. - According to the instruction on the Firmware Updater window, select Menu --> Setup --> USB Connection on the camera, and check if Mass Storage is selected. (Figure 3)
If another mode than Mass Storage is selected, please select Mass Storage. - Connect the camera to the computer with the supplied USB cable.
Note: When the camera is connected to the computer, the LCD screen of the camera turns off. Please proceed to the next step.
Note: If the LCD screen of the camera does not turn off, please try the following methods:- Disconnect the USB cable from the camera, and then reconnect the USB cable.
- If there is another free USB terminal on the computer, reconnect the USB cable to this terminal.
- Confirm the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon
is displayed on the task tray at the lower right corner of the computer screen.
Note: Ifis not displayed on the task tray, please proceed to the next step.
- After confirming the above, click Next on the Firmware Updater window. Figure 4 appears on the Firmware Updater window, and Figure 5 appears on the LCD screen of the camera.
Note: From now on, never turn off the camera until the firmware upgrade is completed.

The current version and the version after the update appear on the lower left part of the screen. (Figure 6)
After confirming the screen on Figure 6, clickNext [Current version] is [Ver.1.xx].If the screen on Figure 7 appears, the upgrade is not required. According to the message, stop the USB connection and click FinishTurn off the camera, remove the battery pack and/or the AC adapter, reinsert the battery or reconnect the AC adapter and turn on the camera again.

on the task tray at the lower right corner of the computer screen to stop the USB connection.
Note: Please keep the USB cable connected even after stopping the USB connection on the computer with the above operation.
Note: Ifis not displayed on the task tray, please proceed to the next step.

- After resetting, reconnection of the camera is verified, and the screen on Figure 11 appears.
- Click Run to start the upgrade. The progress bar appears while upgrading (approximately 5 minutes).

Note: Never turn off the camera nor disconnect the USB cable while upgrading. - When the update is completed, the screen on Figure 12 appears. Click Finish and disconnect the USB cable.

Click the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon
on the task tray at the lower right corner of the computer screen to stop the USB connection.
Note: Ifis not displayed on the task tray, please proceed to the next step.
- Disconnect the USB cable. Note: After finished the update, turn off the camera, remove the battery pack or the AC adaptor, and then turn on the camera again.

Confirm the firmware version of your camera is Ver.1.03
- Select Menu --> Setup --> Version on the camera.
- The firmware version is displayed as illustrated below.
