Confirm the firmware version of your camera

Follow the instructions below to check the firmware version of your camera.
If the firmware version is Ver.1.03 or later, the update is not required.

  1. Select Menu --> Setup --> Version on the camera.
  2. The firmware version is displayed as illustrated below.

The latest version of the firmware update is compatible with the following Macintosh versions:
  • Mac OS X v.10.5 ~ 10.10

Computer hardware

The latest version of the firmware update is compatible with the following hardware:
  • CPU: Intel processor*
    * Core Solo and Core Duo processors are no longer supported.
  • Hard disk space: 200MB or more
  • RAM: 512MB or more
    Note: Please close all other application software before updating the firmware.
  • Power source for the camera
    • Fully charged rechargeable battery pack NP-FW50
      or
      AC adapter AC-PW20 (sold separately)
      Note: The update can be performed only when the remaining battery level is (three marks) or more. We recommend that you use a fully charged battery or the AC adapter AC-PW20 (sold separately).
  • USB cable supplied with the camera
    Note: Update functionality is not guaranteed with any other USB cable.

Important notes:

  • When performing the firmware upgrade, please use a fully charged rechargeable battery pack NP-FW50 or the AC adapter AC-PW20 (sold separately).
  • Do not remove the battery or AC adapter during the update; otherwise, the camera may become inoperable due to the sudden power shutdown.
  • Remove the memory card from the camera beforehand.
  • When using an A-mount lens with the LA-EA2 Mount Adaptor (sold separately) and setting to use the [AF Micro Adj.] function, the registered value is reset.
  1. Make sure that you are logged on as a user with administrative rights.
  2. After reading the disclaimer, click the [Download] button below.
  3. The download of the [Update_NEX7NV103.dmg] file 60.0 MB (63.000.269 bytes) will start.
  4. Save the file on your computer.

Install

Upgrade the firmware of your camera

  1. Double-click the downloaded file [Update_NEX7V103.dmg]. Do not connect the camera yet at this point.
  2. Double-click the [Update_NEX7V103] icon which appears on the Desktop.
  3. Double-click the [Firmware Updater] icon.
  4. To load a kernel extension, the message prompts you to allow the application to make changes. Type the password for the administrative account (Figure 2-1)
  5. The Firmware Updater window appears.
  6. According to the instruction on the Firmware Updater window, select Menu --> Setup --> USB Connection on the camera, and check if Mass Storage is selected. (Figure 3)
    If another mode than Mass Storage is selected, please select Mass Storage.



  7. Connect the camera to the computer with the supplied USB cable.
    Note: When the camera is connected to the computer, the LCD screen of the camera turns off. Please proceed to the next step.
  8. Confirm the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon is displayed on the task tray at the lower right corner of the computer screen.
    Note: If is not displayed on the task tray, please proceed to the next step.
  9. After confirming the above, click Next on the Firmware Updater window. Figure 4 appears on the Firmware Updater window, and Figure 5 appears on the LCD screen of the camera.
    Note: From now on, never turn off the camera until the firmware upgrade is completed.

  10. After confirming the screens on Figures 4 and 5, clickNext
    The current version and the version after the update appear on the lower left part of the screen. (Figure 6)
    After confirming the screen on Figure 6, clickNext [Current version] is [Ver.1.xx].
    Note: If the screen on Figure 7 appears, the upgrade is not required. According to the message, stop the USB connection and click FinishTurn off the camera, remove the battery pack and/or the AC adapter, reinsert the battery or reconnect the AC adapter and turn on the camera again.

  11. Click the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon on the task tray at the lower right corner of the computer screen to stop the USB connection.
    Note: Please keep the USB cable connected even after stopping the USB connection on the computer with the above operation.
    Note: If is not displayed on the task tray, please proceed to the next step.

  12. Press the center of the control wheel to execute the reset of the camera.
    Note: The screen turns off when the center of the control wheel is pressed. Please proceed to the next step.

  13. Click Next on the Firmware Updater window.

  15. After resetting, reconnection of the camera is verified, and the screen on Figure 11 appears.
  16. Click Run to start the upgrade. The progress bar appears while upgrading (approximately 5 minutes).

    Note: Never turn off the camera nor disconnect the USB cable while upgrading.

  17. When the update is completed, the screen on Figure 12 appears. Click Finish and disconnect the USB cable.

    Click the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon
    on the task tray at the lower right corner of the computer screen to stop the USB connection.

    Note: If is not displayed on the task tray, please proceed to the next step.

  18. Disconnect the USB cable.
  19. Note: after having finished the update, turn off the camera, remove the battery pack or the AC adaptor, and then turn on the camera again.

Confirm the firmware version of your camera is Ver.1.03

  1. Select Menu --> Setup --> Version on the camera.
  2. The firmware version is displayed as illustrated below.
