Thank you for your continued interest in Sony products.

Sony is always concerned about quality and customer satisfaction and therefore is offering a firmware update to version 1.17 for MHS-FS1 / FS1K / FS2 / FS2K, and version 1.09 for MHS-FS3 / FS3K bloggie™ Mobile HD snap cameras. Please refer to the "Download and Installation" section of this page on how to download and install the firmware update.

Confirm the firmware version of your bloggie™ Mobile HD snap camera

Follow the instructions below to check the firmware version of your bloggie™ Mobile HD snap camera.

  1. Make sure your bloggie™ Mobile HD snap camera is turned off.
  2. Press the "ON/OF" button(*1), then, when the "bloggie" logo appears on the screen, press and hold the "Movie" button(*2).

  3. The camera displays the firmware version next to the "Zoom bar" for about 4 seconds.
    The location of the firmware version on the screen is different depending on the camera orientation as illustrated below.

  • For MHS-FS1 / FS1K / FS2 / FS2K:
    • If the firmware version is Ver.1.17 or higher, the update is not required.
    • If the firmware version is Ver.1.16 or lower, you should perform the firmware update.
  • For MHS-FS3 / FS3K:
    • If the firmware version is Ver.1.09 or higher, the update is not required.
    • If the firmware version is Ver.1.07 or lower, you should perform the firmware update.

Applicable Models

  • MHS-FS1 / FS1K / FS2 / FS2K with firmware version 1.16 or lower
  • MHS-FS3 / FS3K with firmware version 1.07 or lower

Improvements

This utility updates the MHS-FS1 / FS1K / FS2 / FS2K firmware to version 1.17, and the MHS- FS3 / FS3K firmware to version 1.09, and provides the following benefits:

When upgrading the MHS-FS1 / FS1K / FS2 / FS2K firmware from FW 1.15 to FW 1.16, or the MHS- FS3 / FS3K firmware from FW 1.06 to FW 1.07:

  • Improvement of the file compatibility
  • Improvement of the HDMI connectivity

When upgrading the MHS-FS1 / FS1K / FS2 / FS2K firmware from FW 1.16 to FW 1.17, or the MHS- FS3 / FS3K firmware from FW 1.07 to FW 1.09:

  • Improvement of the user interface


Install

Important notes:

  • Before performing the firmware update, make sure your bloggie™ Mobile HD snap camera is fully charged.

Step 1: download the firmware update

  1. Make sure that you are logged on as a user with administrative rights.
  2. You must accept the terms of the End User Licence Agreement at the bottom of the page. After reading this agreement, click the "I have read the disclaimer and agree to the terms and conditions." check box found in the download area corresponding to your camera model.
  3. Click the download arrow.
  4. The download of the [MHS-FS1.bin] or [MHS-FS2.bin] or [MHS-FS3.bin] file (depending on your camera model) will start.
  5. Save the file to the desktop of your computer (recommended).

Step 2: Connect the bloggie™ Mobile HD snap camera to the computer with the supplied USB connection support cable

For Windows:

  1. Connect the camera to the computer with the supplied USB connection support cable.
    "USB Mode / Mass Storage" appears on the LCD screen.



  2. The computer will detect two drives as follows:

    Note: drive letters might be different depending on your computer environment.
    • "BLOGGIE(D:)"
    • "Bloggie Software(E:)" or "BLOGGIE_SW(E:)"

    Note: if "LUN Settings" (found in your bloggie™ under (Settings) --> [LUN Settings]) is set to "Single", the computer will only detect one drive as follows:
    • "BLOGGIE(D:)"


For Mac OS:

  1. Connect the camera to the computer with the supplied USB connection support cable.
    "USB Mode / Mass Storage" appears on the LCD screen.



  2. The computer will detect two drives as follows:
    • "BLOGGIE"
    • "BLOGGIE_SW"

    Note: if "LUN Settings" (found in your bloggie™ under (Settings) --> [LUN Settings]) is set to "Single", the computer will only detect one drive as follows:
    • "BLOGGIE"

Step 3: Copy the firmware to the internal memory of the bloggie™ Mobile HD snap camera

For Windows:

    • If your computer detected 2 drives at Step 2:
      1. Double-click the drive which has the smallest drive letter.
        ("BLOGGIE(D:)" in the example provided at Step 2)
        Note: drive letters might be different depending on your computer environment.
      2. Copy the downloaded "MHS-FS1.bin" or "MHS-FS2.bin" or "MHS-FS3.bin" file (depending on your camera model) from the desktop of your computer to that drive.
    • If your computer detected only 1 drive at Step 2:
      1. Double-click the drive that has been detected.
        ("Bloggie(D:)" in the example provided at Step 2)
      2. Copy the downloaded "MHS-FS1.bin" or "MHS-FS2.bin" or "MHS-FS3.bin" file (depending on your camera model) from the desktop of your computer to that drive.
  1. Disconnect the camera from the computer by following the below procedure:
    1. Double-click on the task tray.



    2. Click (USB Mass Storage Device) --> [Stop].
    3. Confirm the device on the confirmation window, then click [OK].
    4. Click [OK].
    5. The device is disconnected.

      Note: Step 4 is unnecessary for Windows XP.
  2. Disconnect the USB connection support cable from the camera.


For Mac OS:

    • If your computer detected 2 drives at Step 2:
      1. Double-click the drive labelled as "BLOGGIE".
      2. Copy the downloaded "MHS-FS1.bin" or "MHS-FS2.bin" or "MHS-FS3.bin" file (depending on your camera model) from the desktop of your computer to that drive.
    • If your computer detected only 1 drive at Step 2:
      1. Double-click the drive that has been detected.
      2. Copy the downloaded "MHS-FS1.bin" or "MHS-FS2.bin" or "MHS-FS3.bin" file (depending on your camera model) from the desktop of your computer to that drive.
  1. Disconnect the camera from the computer by following the below procedure:
    • Drag and drop the icon of the drive to the "Trash" icon before disconnecting.
  2. Disconnect the USB connection support cable from the camera.


Step 4: Start the firmware update

  1. Confirm that the battery icon at the upper-right corner of the LCD sccreen is full.
  2. Turn off the camera by pressing the "ON/OFF" button.
  3. Press the "ON/OFF" button again to turn on the camera.
  4. The firmware update will start automatically.
  5. An animated message appears on the LCD screen as illustrated below.



  6. After 30 seconds, the camera will turn off automatically.

    Note: Do not turn off the camera while updating the firmware, or the camera may be dammaged.

Step 5: Check that your bloggie™ Mobile HD snap camera works correctly and confirm the firmware version

  1. Turn on your camera and confirm the system starts correctly.
  2. Check the firmware version is 1.17 (for MHS-FS1 / FS1K / FS2 / FS2K) or 1.09 (MHS-FS3 / FS3K) by following the procedure detailled at the top of the page under the "About this update" section.
