Improvements

With this update, the camera will support the lens information (focal length) display of the Zoom Lens DT 55-200mm F4-5.6.

How to determine the firmware
  1. Slide the power switch to the On position.
  2. Press the MENU button. The MENU is now displayed on the LCD screen.
  3. Press the(Display) button. MENU is now displayed on the LCD screen
  4. A window will show the firmware version on the LCD screen.

    If the firmware version displayed is 1.00, 1.01, 1.02 or 1.03, you need to update the camera. If the firmware version displayed is 1.04, you do NOT have to update the camera.
Computer and hardware requirements
  1. You need a computer that meets the following requirements:
    • One of the following Operating System:
      1. Windows® 8
      2. Windows® 7
    • A USB port.
    • A card slot compatible with:
      1. Memory Stick Duo/Memory Stick PRO Duo.
      2. CF (Compact Flash) cards
      3. Microdrive
  2. You need one of the following recording medium:
    • A Memory Stick Duo/Memory Stick PRO Duo* with at least 16MB capacity.
      * "Memory Stick Duo" will be the term used on this section.
    • A CF (Compact Flash) card with at least 16MB capacity.
    • A Microdrive.
Note:

When using Windows 98/98SE, USB connection between the camera and computer is not possible. Therefore, your computer should have a card slot, or a card reader which is suitable for your recording medium.

Install

  • Step 1 - Download the firmware update to your computer.
    • Make sure no program is running.
    • You must accept the terms of the End User Licence Agreement at the bottom of the page.
      After reading this agreement, click "Accept", a window will pop up.
    • Click the "Download it" link corresponding to your Operating System.
    • Save the file to the Desktop of your computer (recommended).
  • Step 2 - Extract the downloaded file.
    Double-click the downloaded file to extract it. Depending on your Operating System, the file maybe automatically extracted. The two following files are created:
    • DSCA100.app [file size: 1,817,968 bytes]*
    • DSCA100.str [file size: 162,168 bytes]*
    * The file extension may not be visible depending on your Operating System settings.
  • Step 3 - Copy the update file to the recording medium (Memory Stick Duo/ CF card/ Microdrive).
    If your computer has a card slot compatible with Memory Stick Duo or CF card or Microdrive:
    • Insert the recording medium formatted with the camera in the card slot of your computer.
    • Copy the update files (DSCA100.app and DSCA100.str) to the root directory of the recording medium.

      If your computer does not have a card slot compatible with Memory Stick Duo or CF card or Microdrive:
      • Insert a formatted recording medium into the camera (make sure the recording media is formatted with the camera, not with the computer).
      • Insert a fully charged battery (NP-FM55H) into the camera or connect the AC adaptor to the camera.
      • Slide the POWER switch to the On position.
      • Press the MENU button to display the Recording menu.
      • Select the setup iconwith the controller (), then press the Centre button of the controller.to display the Setup menu.
    • Check that "Mass Storage" is chosen in "Transfer mode" in the Setup menu. If this is not the case, set the Transfer mode to "Mass Storage". Select the Transfer mode with the controller (). Press the () on the controller to display the options available in this mode. Select "Mass Storage" with the controller (), then press the Centre button of the controller.
    • Press the MENU button to exit the MENU window.
    • Connect the camera and the computer with the USB cable that was supplied with your camera.
    • Copy the update files (DSCA100.app and DSCA100.str) to the root directory of the recording medium inserted in the camera.
    • When the file is copied, disconnect the USB cable.
  • Step 4 - Update the camera firmware.
    Important:
    When performing the firmware update, use a fully charged battery pack NP-FM55H or the AV-VQ900AM AC adapter/charger (sold separately).
    Do not remove the battery or the AC adapter during the firmware update process, otherwise the camera may be permanently damaged.
    • Insert the recording medium Memory Stick Duo/ CF card/ Microdrive containing the update files into the camera, then slide the POWER switch to the On position.
    • Press the(Playback) button.

    • The confirmation window appears.
    • Use the controller () to highlight "Yes", then press the Centre button of the controller. If you select "No", the operation will be cancelled.
    • The update procedure will now start.
    • When the update procedure is completed, the following window will be displayed. Turn off the camera and then remove the recording medium.
  • Step 5 - Check the firmware version.
    • Slide the power switch to the On position.
    • Press the MENU button. The MENU is now displayed on the LCD screen.
    • Press the(Display) button.
    • A window will show the firmware version on the LCD screen. Check that the version displayed is "Ver. 1.04".
      Important:
      If the firmware update could not be performed, contactSony. After the camera was updated, format the recording medium or delete the update files (DSCA100.app and DSCA100.str) from the recording medium.
