Sony is always concerned about quality and customer satisfaction and therefore is offering a firmware update for DSC-HX5V camera. Please refer to the "Download and Installation" section of this page on how to download and install the firmware update.

Confirm the serial number of your camera

If the serial number falls withing the following serial number range, please perform the firmware update:

  • 1450001~1488430
  • 7452701~7525448

Confirm the firmware version of your camera

Follow the instructions below to check the firmware version of your camera.
If the firmware version is Ver.02 or later, the update is not required.

  1. Make sure the camera is turned off.
  2. Push thePlay Backbutton on the camera while pushing the zoom key toTside.
  3. Push theMenubutton on the camera.
  4. SelectSetupon the camera.
  5. List ofMain Settingon the camera. The firmware version is displayed as illustrated below.

Improvements

  • This firmware update solves the issue that under certain circumstances, the clock settings of the DSC-HX5V may be reset when GPS date information is received.

System Requirements

  • Computer hardware
    • Hard disk space: 200MB or more
    • RAM: 512MB or more
  • Power source for the camera
    • Fully charged rechargeable battery pack NP-BG1 or NP-FG1
      or
      AC adaptor AC-LS5A (sold separately) and cable VMC-MD2 (sold separately)

      Note: The update can be performed only when the remaining battery level is (three marks) or more. We recommend that you use a fully charged battery or the AC adaptor AC-LS5A (sold separately) and cable VMC-MD2 (sold separately).
  • USB cable supplied with the camera. (when using battery pack).

Install

Important notes:

  • When performing the firmware update, please use a fully charged rechargeable battery pack NP-BG1 or NP-FG1 or the AC adaptor AC-LS5A (sold separately).
  • Do not remove the battery or AC adaptor during the update; otherwise, the camera may become inoperable due to the sudden power shutdown.

Step 1: download the firmware updater

  1. Make sure that you are logged on as a computer administrator.
  2. After reading the disclaimer, click the [Accept] button below.
  3. The download of the [DSCHX5V2.exe] file (27,4 MB (28.792.192 bytes)) will start.
  4. Save the file to the desktop of your computer (recommended).

Step 2: update the firmware of your camera

  1. Close all currently running programs on your computer.
  2. Double-click the [DSCHX5V2.exe] file you downloaded to start up the Firmware Updater.


    The Firmware Updater window appears.

  3. According to the instruction on the Firmware Updater window, selectMenu-->Setup-->USB Connectionon the camera, and check ifMass Storageis selected.
    If another mode thanMass Storageis selected, please selectMass Storage.



  4. Connect the camera to the computer with the supplied USB cable.
    Note: When the camera is connected to the computer, the LCD screen of the camera turns off. Please proceed to the next step.
  5. Confirm the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon is displayed on the task tray at the lower right corner of the computer screen.
  6. After confirming the above, clickNexton the Firmware Updater window. Figure 1 appears on the Firmware Updater window, and Figure 2 appears on the LCD screen of the camera.
    Note: From now on, never turn off the camera until the firmware update is completed.

  7. After confirming the screens on Figures 1 and 2, clickNext. The current version and the version after the update appear on the lower left part of the screen. (Figure 3)
  8. After confirming the screen on Figure 3, clickNext.

    If the screen on Figure 4 appears, the update is not required. According to the message, stop the USB connection and clickFinish. Turn off the camera, remove the battery pack and/or the ac adaptor, reinsert the battery or reconnect the ac adaptor and turn on the camera.

  9. Click the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon on the task tray at the lower right corner of the computer screen to stop the USB connection, as instructed on figure 5.
    Note: Please keep the USB cable connected even after stopping the USB connection on the computer with the above operation.

  10. Press the center of the control wheel to execute the reset of the camera.


    Note: The screen turns off when the soft key is pressed. Please proceed to the next step.

  11. After resetting, reconnection of the camera is verified, and the screen on Figure 6 appears.
  12. ClickRunto start the update. The progress bar appears while upgrading.
    Note:Never turn off the camera nor disconnect the USB cable while upgrading.

  13. When the update is completed, the screen on Figure 7 appears. ClickFinishand disconnect the USB cable.

  14. Turn off the camera, remove the battery pack and/or the ac adaptor, reinsert the battery or reconnect the ac adaptor and turn on the camera.

Step 3: Confirm the firmware version of your camera is Ver.02.

  1. Make sure the camera is turned off.
  2. Push thePlay Backbutton on the camera while pushing the zoom key toTside.
  3. Push theMenubutton on the camera.
  4. SelectSetupon the camera.
  5. List ofMain Settingon the camera. The firmware version is displayed as illustrated below.
