Benefits and improvements:

This utility updates the Blu-ray Disc™ player firmware to version 020 and provides the following benefits:

  • Improves compatibility to enhance interactivity with some BD-ROMs

Preparation

Check the player firmware version:

  • Power on the television and make sure it is tuned to the inputs to which the Blu-ray Disc™ player is connected.
  • Power on the Blu-ray Disc™ player player.
  • Use the arrow keys on the remote control to select "Setup" - "System Settings", and then press the "ENTER" button (located at the center of the arrow keys).
  • Use the arrow keys to select "System Information", and then press the "ENTER" button (located at the center of the arrow keys).
  • The firmware version currently installed on the Blu-ray Disc™ player will be listed like below on the television screen:

    Software Version xx.x.xxx

    If the last three digits of the version number are 020 or higher, it is not necessary to install this firmware update.
  • Network Update:
    • The Network Update operation is straightforward, so it is highly recommended that you use the Network Update method.
    • You will need to connect the Blu-ray Disc™ player to your Internet source using an Ethernet cable.

Updating over the internet 

The Network Upgrade operation is straightforward, so it is highly recommended that you use this method to upgrade the Blu-ray Disc™ player firmware upgrade.

  • Please read all the information carefully and thoroughly before downloading and installing any file. Failure to follow the instructions may cause the player to be unresponsive or to require repair.
  • This utility is only for use with the Blu-ray Disc™ players sold within Europe. Not all models are sold in all countries.
  • In order to use this update method it is necessary to have the player correctly connected to an active Internet connection.
  • In order to perform the firmware update, it is necessary to have the player correctly connected to a compatible television.
  • The firmware update process usually takes about 15 to 30 minutes, depending on system configuration and network connection.

Instructions:

  • Before you start:
  1. Power on the television and make sure it is tuned to the inputs to which the Blu-ray Disc™ player is connected.
  2. Connect the LAN terminal on the Blu-ray Disc™ player to your Internet source using an Ethernet cable.
  3. Power on the Blu-ray Disc™ player.
  • Performing the update:
  1. At the Home menu, use the arrow keys on the remote control to select "Setup" - "Network Update" and then press the ENTER button (located at the center of the arrow keys).
  2. The message "Perform version update?" is displayed on the television if a newer version of software exists on the server.
  3. Select "OK" and then press the ENTER button (located at the center of the arrow keys).
  4. The download process starts and the download screen is displayed on the television.
  5. During the download the message "DOWNLOAD */9" is displayed on the television and on the player front panel display.
    Note: The "*" changes to "0" through "9," indicating the download progress.
  6. After the download is complete, the update starts and "VERSION UP" appears on the player front panel display.
  7. While the update is installed the message "VERSION UP */9" is displayed on the player front panel display.
    Note: The "*" changes to "0" through "9," indicating the update progress.
  8. The firmware update is complete when "FINISH" appears on the player front panel display.
    WARNING!! Do not operate or power off the player until this message is displayed. Doing so may cause the Blu-ray Disc™ player to be unresponsive or to require repair.
  9. The Blu-ray Disc™ player will automatically power off.
  10. Power on the Blu-ray Disc™ player.
  11. Check the current firmware version to confirm that the update has successfully installed.
    Note: If the last three digits of the version number are 020 the firmware update was successful.

Possible issues related to the Network Upgrade

"SYSTEM ERROR" or "VERSION UP NG" is displayed on the player front panel display.

  1. Push and hold the "POWER" button for several seconds until the unit power is off.
  2. Turn on the power of the Blu-ray Disc™ player.
  3. Please execute network upgrade procedure again.
  4. If the symptom does not improve after re-upgrade, please contact Sony.


When running network update, the television displays some error message and you cannot perform the firmware update.

The problem might be at the network connection. Verify that network settings of Blu-ray Disc™ player are appropriate.

  1. Check whether LAN cable is inserted to connector.
  2. Check network setting and confirm whether Blu-ray Disc™ player has own IP address. If you use a proxy server, type IP address of the proxy you use instead of the proxy host name in the "Proxy Server" input field.
  3. Then please execute network upgrade procedure again.


Power was shut down while updating.

Power on the player again. And then please execute network upgrade procedure again.



The firmware update process is still not finished after running for more than 30 minutes even though the download part is finished.

Update using a recordable CD-R and your PC

If you successfully updated your Blu-ray Disc™ player using the "Network update" you don't need to apply this procedure.

Warning:

  • This utility is only for use with the Blu-ray Disc™ players sold within Europe. Not all models are sold in all countries.
  • Please follow the update instructions carefully. Failure to follow the instructions may interrupt the update process and may cause the player to be unresponsive or to require repair.
  • Do not power off the player or disconnect it from the AC power outlet. Loss of power during the installation of the firmware update may cause the player to be unresponsive or to require repair.
  • Use a brand new recordable CD-R disc to burn the firmware update. The player may not be able to correctly read a dirty disc or a disc with scratches.
  • Recommended operating system for the computer that will download the firmware update:
    • Windows® Vista®, Windows® XP, or Windows® 7, Mac OS X 10.6.3 is recommended.
  • You need a computer with a CD writer.

Download procedure :

  1. Download the UPDATE_BDPCX7000ES_VER020.EXE file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
  2. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and verify that the size of the UPDATE_BDPCX7000ES_VER020.EXE file is 47,269,888 bytes.
  3. Right-click the UPDATE_BDPCX7000ES_VER020.EXE file, and click "Properties".
  4. On the " UPDATE_BDPCX7000ES_VER020.EXE Properties" screen, verify that the "Size:" listed is "45.0 MB (47,269,888 bytes)".



  5. Double-click the UPDATE_BDPCX7000ES_VER020.EXE file to begin the process to extract the firmware update.
  6. At the UPDATE_BDPCX7000ES_VER020.EXE dialog box, type a location, or click the "Browse..." button to select a location for the uncompressed update, and then click "OK". The UPDATE_BDPCX7000ES_VER020.ISO file will be extracted to the specified location.
  7. To create the firmware update disc, write the decompressed file (UPDATE_BDPCX7000ES_VER020.ISO) to the root of a CD-R. (avoid using ISO9660 format if using a writing software).

    Do not create a data disc. In order for the update disc to work, you must create it using the "Burn Image" option of your CD burning software.

Important notes:

  • Make sure that the disc is finalized.
  • Make sure the disc creation was correctly done without any error. In case of doubt, recreate a new update disc.
  • Use of the ISO9660 format may result in an incorrect update disc.
  • Do not create the update disc using another process than the one described above.

Firmware update procedure:

  • Warning:

    - Do not turn off the player or disconnect the player from the power supply during the update process. Doing so may damage your player and make it unusable, and would require a repair of the player.

    - Do not press any button, except as instructed, until the update is complete. Doing so may damage your player and make it unusable, and would require a repair of the player.
  • Before you start:
  1. Power on the television and make sure it is tuned to the inputs to which the Blu-ray Disc™ player is connected.
  2. Power on the Blu-ray Disc™ player.
  3. Press OPEN/CLOSE button on the remote control or on the front panel to open the front cover.
  4. Insert the update disc and press OPEN/CLOSE button on the remote control or on the front panel to close the front cover.
  • Performing the update:
  1. Use the arrow keys on the remote control to select the update disc in "Other Discs" under the Category icons ("Video" or "Music" or "Photo"), and press the "ENTER" button (located at the center of the arrow keys).
  2. After the disc is loaded, the message, "Perform version update?" is displayed on the television.
  3. Use the arrow keys on the remote control to select "OK", and then press the "ENTER" button (located at the center of the arrow keys).
  4. The update starts and "VERSION UP */9" appears on the player front panel display.
    Note: The "*" changes to "0" through "9," indicating the update progress.
  5. The firmware update is complete when "FINISH" appears on the player front panel display.
    Do not operate or power off the player until this message is displayed. Doing so may result in your player being unresponsive and requiring repair.

  6. The Blu-ray Disc™ player automatically turns off.
  7. Power on the Blu-ray Disc™ player.
  8. Remove the update disc from the player.
  9. Check the firmware version. If the version number is 020, the firmware update was successful.

Possible issues related to the update disc method

The update disc does not appear in "Other Discs" on the HOME menu when the update disc is inserted.

Remove the update disc from the player and delete the update files from your computer. Download the update again and follow the entire procedure above to create a new update disc and install the firmware update.



When I double click on the UPDATE_BDPCX7000ES_VER020.EXE update file I downloaded from the update web site, the UPDATE_BDPCX7000ES_VER020.ISO file is not created and the following error message appears: "Win32 Cabinet Self-Extraction".

The download may have failed. Delete the downloaded file and download the update file again.



The firmware update does not finish, after running for more than 30 minutes.
