Install

ESS Audio/Modem driver update for VAIO PCG-F801A (Windows Millennium preinstalled).

Solution:

1. Download instructions:

  1. Unlock the modem of your VAIO.
  2. Create a new folder to place the file downloaded from the web - Name itDownload.
  3. Download theModem Driver Upgradefile from theDownloadsection for your VAIO into theDownloadfolder
  4. When the download is complete, clickStart, point toPrograms,Accessoriesand then clickWindows Explorer.
  5. Browse to the download folder and selectMDU_ess_443042.exeselectView, and then clickDetails- Check the size of the driver. If the size is the same as mentioned on the download page, the download was performed successfully. If the size is different, delete the file you have downloaded and proceed with the download procedure once more.
  6. TheESUpWinMe.exefile you have downloaded is a self extract file.
  7. UseWindows Explorerand double-clickMDU_ess_443042.exeto open the file - AWinZip Self-Extractordialogue box appears
  8. Type the following path in theUnzip to folderfield:C:\Downloadand the clickUnzip.
  9. ClickOKonce all the files have been extracted -ClickClose.

2. Update driver instructions:

  1. Browse toC:\Download\ESSetup.exe
  2. Double-click theESSetup.exefile.
  3. Follow on-screen instructions and selectUninstall drivers.
  4. Restart your VAIO and at theAdd/Remove Hardware Wizardwindow, clickCanceltwice to all hardware found.
NOTE: If you do not clickCanceltwice on these steps the driver installation will fail.
  1. Browse toC:\Download\ESSetup.exe
  2. Double-click theSetup.exefile again.
  3. SelectUpgrade driversand clickNext.
  4. After the files have been copied, selectI want to restart my Computerand clickFinish.
  5. When the system warns you that you are about to install a driver that is not certified, ignore the warning and clickYes.
  6. Click OK.
