BIOS Upgrade Version 4001 for PCV-LX1 (XP Upgrade Only)
Important Note. Please read this!
This program will update the BIOS on VAIO PCV-LX1 running WinXP only! If you want to return to the previous OS (WinMe) after this BIOS upgrade, please download and install BIOS version 3002.
Create a DOS bootdisk in WinXP
1.Insert a blank floppy in the floppy drive
2.Double-click My Computer icon (or open Windows Explorer)
3.Right-click 3 1/2 Floppy (A:), and then click Format...
4.Check the 2 format options: Quick Format and Create an MS-DOS startup disk
5.Click Start. Windows displays a warning message. Click OK.
6.Leave the floppy in the flopy disk drive.
Download BIOS file 4001.exe
1.Download the file 4001.exe to a download directory.
2.Go to the download directory, and double-click 4001.exe to extract it.
3.Extract the file to the floppy disk you created previously.
4.Leave the floppy in the floppy disk drive.
Update the BIOS
1.Restart the PC, and it will boot from the floppy disk.
2.At the A: prompt, typ "updbios" (without quotation marks). (if the file 4001.exe was not extracted in the root of A:, don"t forget to switch to the correct sub-directory).
3.Do you want to update the BIOS? Enter "Y".
4.The BIOS update program runs, and then restarts the computer automatically.
5.Take the floppy out.
6.When the computer restarts, press F2 key to enter the BIOS setup menu.
7.Press F5 key to load Default configurations. "Yes" is highlited. Press Enter.
8.Press F10 key to save changes and exit. "Yes" is highlighted. Press Enter.
Restore BIOS version 3002
!!!! Restore BIOS version 3002 only if you want to reinstall WinMe.
1.Create a DOS bootdisk as described above.
2.Download the file 3002.exe to a download directory.
3.Double-click 3002.exe, and extract it to the floppy disk you"ve just created
4.Leave the floppy in the floppy disk drive, and restart the PC
5.The PC will boot from the floppy disk.
6.At the A: prompt, typ "updbios" (without quotation marks). (if the file 4001.exe was not extracted in the root of A:, don"t forget to switch to the correct sub-directory).
7.Enter "Y". The BIOS runs and restarts the computer automatically.
8.Take the floppy out.
9.Press F2 to enter the BIOS setup.
10.Press F5 to load the default values. Press Enter.
11.Press F10 to save and exit.
