What is Vodafone Mobile Broadband?

The mobile connectivity technology enables you to connect to the Internet quickly, simply and securely wherever there is Vodafone network coverage via the embedded data SIM card. You can now access your email, web browser and social networking sites whenever and wherever you want to. Setting up mobile connectivity is easy – you just need to register yourself on your local Vodafone network (or supported Vodafone Partner network), then activate the SIM to enable mobile connectivity.

Why do I need to activate my SIM card?

You first need to register and activate your new SIM with a Vodafone network in order to start accessing the internet. This will only take a few minutes to complete and then you can enjoy using your device with 3G right away.


Why do I need to register my details?

You need to register your details to receive an e-mail notification after completion of your registration. Please make sure you register with a correct e-mail. Please be aware that your data will not be used for any marketing purposes without your further approval.

If I activate the SIM card, will I be tied into a contract?

You won’t be tied into a contract when you activate your SIM as the Vodafone SIM coming with your device is pre-paid. After activating your SIM, you need to top it up and you will only be charged for what you use. However, if you wish, you can easily change your PAY AS YOU GO SIM with a contract later that suits your needs.

Will I be charged while I’m activating the SIM card?

No, you will not be charged for activating your SIM. You will only start being charged after activating your new SIM and connecting the internet.


How do I activate my SIM card?

There are three simple steps to start using your SIM card and this will only take you a couple of minutes to complete. First you need to check if your location has been set correctly and then enter your details to register on Vodafone network. After that, you just need to follow some easy steps to complete your SIM activation. Please don’t forget to restart your device after the SIM activation to start using your internet.

Can I access any websites free of charge before activating my SIM?

You’ll be able to access the pages to start your SIM activation and your local Vodafone’s webpages to allow you finalise your SIM activation.


Where can I find the SIM card?

Vodafone SIM is pre-inserted in the WAN SIM card slot of the VAIO.

This is required for the for the initial activation process (no charges will apply).


Can I use the SIM in another device?

Yes, as long as the SIM has been first activated properly and your other device is compatible and supports mobile data connectivity.


Can I use another SIM Card in the VAIO?

While Vodafone is our preferred partner, any other micro-sim with valid data plan can be used.


How do I take out or insert the SIM?

The SIM card slot is located at the back side of the LCD panel.

To remove: press firmly the SIM card down, then pull the SIM out.

To insert: turn the SIM card upside down so the gold contact is facing up and the numbers/beveled edge are away from you. Insert the SIM card gently into the slot until it clicks.

What software can I use to connect?

Both default Windows Network manager and included OneClick Sony solution can be used to activate and use Vodafone connection.


How to connect with OneClick Internet?
  1. Click on OneClick Internet icon.

  2. Wait for "Ready to connect" to display then click Connect button.

    Please note that for the intial activation on Vodafone SIM "Allow roaming" under Settings must be selected.

How to connect using built in Windows Network Manager?
  1. Click on WiFi/Lan indicator in Windows tasktray.

  2. Expand Vodafone Connection and verify "Allow data roaming" is selected (this step is necessary only during for the intial activation of Vodafone SIM on a local network).
  3. Click Connect

Does the card support international roaming once activated?

Yes. You can contact Vodafone Support for more information on international roaming and setup details.


I inserted the SIM correctly, why can’t I still access internet?

Before being able to access the internet, you need to register your details with Vodafone through a couple of simple steps to activate your SIM. You will be directed through these steps on your Vodafone’s registration page and this will take only couple of minutes. After completion of the activation, you will be able to access the internet.
