Termination of BBC News and BBC Sport apps on all Sony TVs, Blu-Ray Disk players and Home Theatre systems – 16 November 2020

Please note that the BBC’s decision to terminate the services mentioned in this article applies to all manufacturers.

From 16 November 2020, the BBC News and BBC Sport apps will no longer be supported by Sony’s TVs, Blu-Ray Disk players and Home Theatre systems.

The BBC has already released the below messages across all the affected devices, on the BBC News and Sport app respectively:

 As of 8 February 2021, the BBC News and BBC Sport icons will no longer appear on your TV.  

What are my alternatives?

After 16 November 2020, you will notice the following changes when trying to launch BBC News or BBC Sport on your TV:

1. BBC News: you will see the following message displayed on your TV screen:

The BBC News app on TV is now no longer available.

You can still keep up with all the latest news headlines and stories by heading to BBC News on BBC iPlayer if you’re in the UK, and on the BBC News app outside of the UK.

NOTE: The BBC News app which is available outside the UK after 16 November 2020 is a mobile app, not a TV app.

2. BBC Sport: you will be redirected to BBC iPlayer where you can continue to watch sport coverage from the BBC.
