DVD disc compatibility

DVD-R can be only written once. You cannot delete the recorded data.
DVD-RW can be written several times. Data can be deleted to record new data.
DVD+RW can be written several times. Data can be deleted to record new data. This format offers a better hardware compatibility.
DVD+R DL offers double recording capacity compared with the other formats mentioned above. You can therefore record longer video footage. You cannot delete the recorded data.

Notes on using 8-cm DVD discs:

Sony strongly recommends the use of 8-cm DVD discs from Sony and/or other compatible 8-cm DVD discs, which are provided with a packaging stating the compatibility with Sony DVD Camcorder. When other DVD's are used, Sony can not ensure an error-free recording.
