Technology has transformed the way we do business, but until now progress within the video production market has been hampered by the ever-growing size of AV files and the relative limitations of typical computer networks.
Today, content production areas within broadcast stations are taking advantage of higher network bandwidths by setting up file-based systems, and implementing fully networked editing environments.
But in live production, networks must not only be fast but also completely reliable. Low latencies, seamless switching and reliability are essential, and best-effort network approaches are unacceptable. As a result, video transmission is still carried out using SDI and coaxial cable.
But with the growing demand for higher frame rates, higher dynamic range, and 4K and 8K resolutions, the cost of the hardware and cabling for conventional SDI implementations can be prohibitive.
Our IP Live Production System solves this dilemma by broadcasting quality HD and 4K video, audio, synchronisation signals and control data across the IP network through a single network cable. Designed to integrate seamlessly into your existing SDI infrastructure, IP Live Production brings increased efficiency, reliability and scalability with reduced system costs.
Whatever your needs, IP Live Production brings a range of benefits to revolutionise professional video production.
With other systems, when a router failure occurs, the signal is interrupted while the patch board is fixed. With IP Live Production, the Networked Media Interface can provide redundant infrastructure that increases system availability even in the case of a failure.
Until now, live and file-based systems have been separately constructed. IP Live integrates these into one, so there’s no need to invest twice in two different technologies.
IP Live is flexible, allowing for easy scalability. It’s easy to add equipment and smooth migration from HD to 4K, 8K and High Frame Rate is also possible.
IP Live enables live production from any venue. More chances for live production means more business opportunities.

By offering our IP Live Production System, Sony will transform all signals, from video, audio, metadata and synchronisation signals and control signals to IP. This will allow resource sharing between production systems, allowing file-based systems and live systems to be integrated into one. Broadcast stations will no longer need to invest twice in two different systems.
IP Live is scalable and ready to accept next generation video format such as 4K, 8K and High Frame Rate. It can also be upgraded flexibly according to evolution of future video formats. The system uses a conventional IP switch to provide high performance IP switching quickly, with lower costs.
With IP you’re not constrained by location as all equipment is available on network, allowing live production from any venue. It’s like a virtual production system which allows users to share resources on the network. Set-up and maintenance can be centrally performed, making IP the most efficient production and operation system.
Stable transmission is essential in the integration of file-based and live systems. The signals from file-based and live systems are multiplexed on a single network for transmission; however, once the live broadcast begins, the top priority is to send full-time live signals reliably with no delay. It’s important to avoid packet-loss and latency from concentration of traffic to secure stable transmission. IP Live ensures stable AV transmission with its Quality of Service (QoS) technology.
In IP transmission, data is packetised when transmitted, allowing several AV streams to be transmitted by a single network cable. The Networked Media Interface supports SD, HD, 4K and 8K and high frame rate signals in compressed and non-compressed formats.
The IP Live System Manger manages the IP network and devices and controls centrally the entire system, maximising the benefits of IP. Users can register “workgroups” in the system, selecting different equipment and set-ups in advance. To activate the workgroup before production begins, set-up is done in the system immediately, with no need to set up equipment by hand.
To bring IP Live Production System into the mainstream, there will have to be a wide variety of compatible products on the market. Compatible cameras, switchers, servers, computer graphics, display devices, and backbones will all have to be readily available.
To achieve this, we’re forging cooperative links and making the necessary technologies and development tools available to leading end device vendors. Developers and vendors can selectively incorporate these technologies into their own IP Live compatible products. We’ll also provide technical support, connectivity testing, and other assistance to support development by the vendors.
To ensure interoperability, our IP Live Production System is now supported by 42 industry-leading companies.
