The CU-F117 used in combination with the WRT-847B handheld transmitter offers omni-directional pick-up characteristics while maintaining a strong sound. While the well-balanced audio characteristics allow for a range of use it is ultimately suitable for speech where environmental noise is limited such as various in ENG applications.

The design offers pick-up of sound with non-quality variation of any direction regardless of which way the unit is pointing. This is useful with ambient recordings as well as speech recordings in a news gathering application.
The heads are screwed on the body of the WRT-847B. The electrical signal connection is through gold plated pins on the capsule connecting to gold plated tracks in the body.
The capsule is extended a bit so that a standard station identification mark can be wrapped around the body towards the top of the unit, above the display and on/off switch.
