Grammy Award winning band uses Sony’s PMW-F55 cameras to produce world’s largest scale 4K multi-camera live concert recording
IBC, Amsterdam, Sept. 13, 2013: At IBC2013, Sony Electronics today announced it has worked with stadium rockers Muse and Serpent Productions, to produce the world’s largest scale 4K multi-camera live concert recording. The concert, which took place in Rome in July, used 16 Sony PMW-F55 cameras to generate extremely high quality images that truly immerse the viewer and make them feel like they were there on the night. The recording marks another watershed moment in the global expansion and adoption of 4K technology outside the digital cinema industry, driven by Sony.
On July 6th, Muse played to more than 60,000 fans at the Stadium Olympico, one of Rome’s largest sports venues. As part of Sony’s vision to develop products that truly reflect the emotional intent of the artist, the company worked with Dutch facilities company United and production company Serpent to supply 16 Sony PMW-F55 cameras that recorded the performance in four times the definition of HD.
“Muse is recognised as one of the best live bands in the world, incorporating cutting edge visual effects to explore new forms of creative performance,” said David Bush, Marketing Director, Sony Europe. “Using our ground-breaking PMW-F55 cameras, the band’s concert in Rome was recorded in incredible richness, enabling the music to come to life in a way that completely transforms the viewer’s experience.”
A DVD and Blu-Ray release of the concert is expected to be made available in late 2013. Sony has agreed worldwide rights to use an excerpt from the concert at trade shows and retail demonstrations. The band themselves took time out from their world tour to review and approve a special 4K release of the song "Follow Me" with both stereo and 5.1 surround audio mixes. The footage is to be shown as the primary music-genre footage as part of a 4K showreel being prepared for BRAVIA 4K demonstrations at Sony retail outlets globally.
Sony is exhibiting at IBC in the same location as last year, in Hall 12, stand number 12.A10 and also in the central outdoor space. For more information, please visit the Sony IBC2013 website -www.pro.sony.eu/ibc
