Sony 4K gives Italian cinema the edge.

As the world of cinema technology evolves to offer audiences immersive new experiences such as 3D and 4K, multiplexes around the globe are seizing the opportunity to give their customers a spectacle like no other. In Italy, having recently upgraded its entire complex to Sony 4K, the seven-screen Giometti Multiplex leads the way.

Sony 4K gives Italian cinema the edge.

Background

Our cinema becomes the benchmark for multiplexes in Italy, in advance of all others.

Giovanni Giometti, Owner, Giometti Multiplex

The Giometti Multiplex is a seven-screen cinema complex in Tolentino, central Italy. Building on their long-standing commitment to unrivalled customer service, in 2011, they became the first cinema in Italy to offer audiences the 4K experience. In time for the launch at the end of September, they upgraded four of their screens to Sony 4K. Now, with the same systems installed in the remaining three screens, the Giometti Multiplex proudly offers every visitor an entirely 4K experience.

Sony solution

Giometti installed the end-to-end Sony SRX-R320 projector together with RealD’s industry-leading 3D system. The complex-wide deployment also included Italy’s first installation of the Sony STM-100 Theatre Management System (TMS).

Business benefits

The Sony 4K solution provides the Giometti Multiplex with a genuine competitive advantage. Being the first cinema in Italy to adopt this technology, they are not only able to offer an unrivalled experience to their audience, but have further enhanced their reputation as a cinematic centre of excellence – strengthening their partnership with distributors and facilitating their ability to host profitable international film events.

The Sony STM-100 TMS also enables them to centralise the management of projection and monitoring systems across all seven screens. Enabling them to transfer content without needing to operate the projector manually, this has vastly improved their operational efficiency. And with this managerial simplification, they are seeing reductions in their systems’ cost of ownership that are helping to fund their investment in 4K.

Summary

“Finally, with Tolentino, Italy is at the forefront of technology for digital cinema. Going to the movies today can be a unique experience.” - Giovanni Giometti, Owner, Giometti Multiplex
