Focusing is the process of ensuring that your image is sharp before exposure. When your subject is in focus it has clearly defined outlines, with crisp details and no blurring. Your Cyber-shot camera has built-in technology called Face Detection, which automatically focuses on faces.

Focus method

You can set your Cyber-shot camera to auto-focus in different ways to match the way you compose your subject. To get the best out of auto-focusing (AF), learn to match these AF settings to the shooting situation.

Multi AF

Multi AF examines the whole scene and looks for the elements that you are most likely to want to be sharp. This setting is good for general-purpose photography and for when the main subject is off-centre.

Center AF

Center AF automatically focuses on the subject in the centre of the frame. This setting is useful when you use the AF Lock function (see below) and want to re-compose the picture.

Spot AF

Spot AF is similar to Center AF, but focuses on a very small point in the centre of the scene. It is useful for focusing on specific elements, such as the eyes of a subject.
